About the Department
MUST BE A CURRENT, REGULAR EMPLOYEE OF THE LOUISVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
Essential Functions:
- Repairs motor vehicles and plans, coordinates and supervises employees and activities of an operational unit
- Exercises supervision over subordinate personnel
Position Duties
- May be required to complete modified firefighter recruit training and maintain basic skills
- Directs and coordinates the work of employees involved in the servicing and repairing of emergency vehicles
- Receives initial work orders for automotive repairs
- Analyzes defective equipment to determine cause of problem
- Makes repairs or assigns work to subordinate mechanics
- Arranges for major repairs on vehicles by outside auto repair facilities
- Inspects and tests vehicle to determine repairs need for, cost of repairs and compliance to work orders
- Requisitions, receives, stores and issues automotive parts and equipment
- Studies work schedules and estimates workers’ hours required for completion of assignments
- Interprets job order to workers
- Establishes or adjusts procedures to meet work schedules
- Analyzes and resolves work problems
- Confers with supervisor to ensure adherence to standards, identify inefficiencies in operation, and equipment utilization
- Maintains purchases, repairs and maintenance records
- Prepares operational reports
- Trains employees in mechanical techniques
- Oversees the maintenance and custodial care of the agency
- Remains on 24-hour call in order to respond to emergency breakdowns of the agency’s vehicles
- Oversees the storage of non-auto parts and equipment for the agency
- Coordinates the activities of the unit with other agency sections to ensure the completion of the work
- Performs related work
Minimum Qualifications
- MUST BE A CURRENT, REGULAR EMPLOYEE OF THE LOUISVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT
- High school diploma or the equivalent
- Four years of experience as a Mechanic
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substitutedOther Minimums:- Must be of good moral character, with no criminal or felony record inconsistent with the provisions of this paragraph. Unacceptable will be persons who have been convicted of a felony, or who have any criminal action pending against them
- An applicant may be disqualified for multiple misdemeanors, an unacceptable criminal record, or multiple traffic violations
- Applicants who have bought or sold marijuana within three years of application, or have bought or sold any controlled substance or narcotic drug without a prescription within six years of application will be disqualified
- Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening
- Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test
- Must pass a medical examination
- Must work a varied schedule
- Must have current certification in the following ASE Modules: A1, A5, A6, T2 and T4
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Physical Requirement & Working Conditions:- Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Special Requirements:- Must complete the Louisville Fire Officer program within one year of appointment
