Position Duties

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is actively recruiting qualified individuals for a full-time Maintenance Crew Chief position. Under the overall guidance of the appointed supervisor, this role supervises daily operations that contribute to the County's preventive maintenance strategy. This position conducts safety inspections of buildings, vehicles, equipment, and tools; manages customer service; organizes staff schedules; guarantees routine and corrective maintenance both inside and outside; ensures daily cash receipts are accounted for; and coordinates tasks executed by contractors. An ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, patience, and effective communication abilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Executes maintenance and repair duties utilizing appropriate tools and materials; carries out work to align with industry standards; makes certain that work performance does not generate hazardous conditions or disturb residents; and follows Department close-out guidelines to log completed tasks.
• Performs preventative maintenance tasks on vehicles, equipment, machinery, and tools; undertakes repairs as required.
• Prepares the fields to ensure optimal conditions for games; conducts maintenance on the grounds and structures, including debris removal and trash disposal, in accordance with game and tournament schedules.
• Maintains records and reports of maintenance operations.
• Directs maintenance technicians on their assignments and projects; assigns and reviews tasks to ensure completion; and supervises specialized or unusual emergency work.
• Designated as essential personnel. May be required to work 24/7 in case of County emergencies.

• May carry out additional critical job responsibilities pertinent to the specific role and departmental assignment.

*Candidates must be prepared to work a flexible schedule that encompasses weekdays, evenings, and weekends. They should also be capable of working on an as-needed or recall basis, or reporting as required when assigned. *

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.



Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; preferably with coursework in building trades or grounds maintenance depending on assigned area; four (4) years of related work experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, building trades, depending on assigned area inclusive of one (1) year of lead level or supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• This position is CDL preferred, candidate is not required to hold or obtain this certification.
• Commercial Pesticide Applicator's/Fertilizer Applicator License is preferred.

Other Qualifications

Must undergo pre-employment criminal, credit, and DMV background checks. Valid driver's license and good driving record are required. Annual reviews of driving records may be conducted to ensure ongoing qualification. Acquiring a Playground Certification (PC) is mandatory within 12 months of being hired. First Aid/CPR certifications within 30 days of hire; OSHA certifications, including forklift, bucket truck, and lift truck, are required within department timeframes.
