COORDINATOR, SECONDARY MATHEMATICS PROGRAM

41G (School Support Administrator, 0515)

The Coordinator, Secondary Mathematics Program assists the Division of Instruction in supporting the academic needs of all students by promoting learner-centered mathematics instruction and assessment aligned to state standards. The coordinator collaborates with the region team and school-site personnel to lead and/or facilitate the development of professional development and other instructional support structures to effectively implement data-driven, results-based support services and programs for all students.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates the implementation of the mathematics California content standards and initiatives by providing subject matter expertise for teachers at all secondary schools
Provides assistance in the design, development, and implementation of the Math Professional Development Plan for grades 6-12
Uses student-centered data to identify and design strategies to address areas of need in mathematics instruction in grades 6-12
Works with schools to build multi-tiered systems of support for all students
Collaborates with all central office and region instructional units to plan for and implement the California content standards, standards- based mathematics instruction, and access strategies to support all students including English learners, Standard English learners, students with disabilities, foster youth, and gifted and talented education students
Collaborates with all central office and region staff to design and deliver professional development that utilizes and aligns standards-based content with effective classroom pedagogy to increase proficiency for all students through effective first teaching
Supports and facilitates the integration of instructional technology into classrooms to support teaching and learning

CONTINUE - PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with the review and analysis of District policies related to teaching and learning mathematics: reviews training materials, reference guides, memoranda, and user newsletters
Develops and delivers presentations for public venues (e.g., board committee meetings)
Drafts inter-office correspondence and policy documents for District leadership and for communication with school site personnel
Serves as the secondary mathematics instructional programs liaison between the region and the Division of Instruction
Performs other duties as assigned related to building the capacity of school staff to be effective educators

SALARY:

41G, School Support Administrator (0515) – E Basis ($126,504 – $157,802) – 234 paid days

In the case of annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF’s provisions or due to budget limitations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

At least eight (8) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s), with no fewer than two (2) years of which must have been in a leadership position(s) (e.g., coordinator, instructional coach, dean)
At least three (3) years of successful, full-time public school experience as a secondary mathematics teacher or as a mathematics instructional coach
A valid California Administrative Services Credential
An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Permanent certificated employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District
Knowledge of:
secondary mathematics California content standards, curriculum, and effective evidence-based instructional strategies
evidence-based and standards-based mathematics instruction that promotes successful vertical articulation of students
and understanding of the instructional strategies that promote accelerated achievement of English learners, Standard English learners, socioeconomically-disadvantaged students, foster youth, students with disabilities, and gifted and talented education students
Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) in mathematics and Response to Instruction and Intervention (Rtl2) to promote mathematics proficiency for all students
and skill in instructional technology to enhance student learning

CONTINUE - DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

in designing and delivering professional development using adult learning theory
as either a mathematics lead or department chair
delivering mathematics professional development using adult learning theory and adhering to a study, model, practice, plan approach
with development common formative assessments aligned to targets
providing content specific actionable feedback, measuring implementation of the feedback provided, and following up

Ability to:

use technology for data collection and analysis for reporting, teacher improvement, and to promote academic proficiency for all students
interpret and use data for the purpose of improving student achievement and informing instruction
work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups
travel to multiple sites throughout the District

Strong instructional design background reflective of mastery-based and personalized learning
Strong oral and written communication skills
