About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Logistics & Customs Manager to join our Global Supply Chain team based in India, supporting Pharmanovia’s rapidly expanding international operations. This is a truly global position, responsible for managing the end-to-end logistics and customs operations across Pharmanovia’s international trade lanes between India and key markets throughout Europe, LATAM, APAC and the Middle East & Africa (MEA). You will oversee both exports of finished pharmaceutical products from India and imports of materials and goods into India, ensuring compliant, efficient and cost-effective movement of products throughout our global supply chain. Leading an international logistics team with colleagues based in both India and Europe, you will work closely with Regional Supply Chain teams, Quality, Finance, Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMOs), freight forwarders, customs brokers, warehouse providers and external logistics partners across multiple regions. This role is ideal for an experienced international logistics professional with a strong background in pharmaceutical supply chains, customs compliance and global trade, who enjoys working in a fast-paced, collaborative and highly regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end international logistics strategy for all shipments between India and Pharmanovia’s markets across Europe, LATAM, APAC and MEA, ensuring safe, compliant and timely product movement.
- Own all customs and international trade compliance activities, ensuring imports and exports comply with Indian customs legislation as well as international customs regulations across multiple global markets.
- Manage international freight operations, including air, sea and road transportation, ensuring optimum service levels, cost efficiency and on-time delivery performance.
- Lead and develop an international logistics team, including direct reports based in Europe, providing leadership, coaching, performance management and continuous development.
- Develop strategic relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, 3PL providers and warehouse partners, ensuring high performance, contractual compliance and continuous service improvement.
- Ensure uninterrupted pharmaceutical supply by proactively managing logistics risks, customs delays and transportation challenges across global trade lanes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across logistics operations, identifying opportunities to optimise transportation costs, improve lead times and enhance customer service.
- Monitor and manage logistics KPIs, preparing regular performance reports and using operational data to improve supply chain performance.
- Ensure full compliance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) and Pharmanovia Quality Management System requirements throughout the international distribution network.
- Lead customs clearance activities, working closely with customs brokers and authorities to minimise delays and ensure compliant import and export operations.
- Manage bonded warehouse and Free Trade Zone operations, ensuring regulatory compliance and operational efficiency where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with global anti-counterfeiting legislation, including the EU Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD), product serialisation and product traceability requirements.
- Own logistics SOPs, policies and operational procedures, ensuring documentation remains current, compliant and aligned with global standards.
- Lead investigations into logistics deviations, customs issues and distribution incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing effective CAPAs.
- Monitor changes in international trade legislation, customs regulations and pharmaceutical distribution requirements, proactively implementing business process improvements.
- Partner closely with Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, Procurement, Manufacturing and Commercial teams to ensure seamless supply chain execution across all regions.
- Support Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMOs) by coordinating international shipment planning, customs requirements and inventory movements.
- Manage logistics budgets, transportation spend and supplier performance to maximise operational efficiency while maintaining service excellence.
- Lead regular business reviews with logistics providers, monitoring contractual performance against agreed service levels and KPIs.
- Provide expert advice to internal stakeholders on customs regulations, import/export requirements and international trade compliance.
- Support business continuity planning, ensuring robust contingency plans are in place to minimise disruption across global supply chains.
- Represent Pharmanovia during audits, inspections and regulatory assessments relating to logistics, GDP and customs compliance.
- Travel internationally as required to support regional teams, logistics partners and business operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Trade, Business or a related discipline.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience using ERP systems such as SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC or equivalent Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
Required Skills
- Minimum 8 years' experience within international logistics, supply chain or global trade.
- Strong experience managing international import and export operations.
- Experience working within pharmaceutical, healthcare, life sciences or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience managing complex global trade lanes across multiple international markets.
- Proven experience leading international logistics teams, including remote management of overseas employees.
- Strong experience managing freight forwarders, customs brokers, warehouse providers and third-party logistics partners.
- Experience negotiating logistics contracts and supplier service agreements.
- Experience managing customs compliance within India and international markets.
- Experience implementing logistics process improvements and operational efficiencies.
- Experience managing international transportation budgets and logistics KPIs.
- Experience supporting Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMOs) and global manufacturing operations.
Preferred Skills
- Professional qualification in Customs Compliance, International Trade, Supply Chain or Logistics.
- APICS, CILT, CSCMP or equivalent professional certification.
- Lean Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement certification.
