Secondary CTE Teacher – Digital Literacy
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Secondary Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher – Digital Literacy to join our team in fostering a positive, innovative, and engaging learning environment for our students. This position focuses on teaching Digital Literacy courses, equipping students with essential technology skills, digital citizenship knowledge, and career-ready competencies for success in an increasingly digital world.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating and implementing engaging, hands-on lesson plans that meet diverse learning needs while promoting academic growth, technical proficiency, and social-emotional development. The teacher will integrate real-world applications of technology, industry standards, and career exploration into daily instruction.
This full-time position requires strong communication skills, creativity, and a commitment to preparing students with 21st-century digital skills. Applicants must hold a valid Utah Educator License with a CTE endorsement in Digital Literacy (or related field), or be able to qualify for a Utah Educator License and appropriate CTE endorsement.
Essential Functions
- Adapts classroom instruction to provide students with digital literacy skills aligned to Utah CTE standards, including computer fundamentals, online safety, digital communication, productivity software, and emerging technologies.
- Develops and implements engaging, technology-rich lesson plans that address individualized learning needs within established curriculum frameworks.
- Administers assessments, skills-based evaluations, and certification-aligned testing (if applicable) to measure student competency and growth in digital literacy.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians regarding student progress, digital skill development, and strategies to reinforce responsible technology use at home.
- Assesses student progress toward learning objectives and provides timely, meaningful feedback.
- Collaborates with CTE colleagues, instructional staff, administrators, parents, and community/industry partners to enhance student outcomes and align instruction with workforce readiness standards.
- Integrates career exploration, digital citizenship, and responsible technology use into instruction.
- Demonstrates technology tools, software applications, and digital platforms to provide effective, hands-on instruction.
- Directs assistant teachers, instructional aides, volunteers, and student workers to support classroom learning and technology-based activities.
- Instructs students to improve academic, technical, and interpersonal skills through a defined Digital Literacy course of study.
- Manages student behavior in technology-rich environments to ensure safe, responsible, and productive use of devices and online resources.
- Monitors students in classrooms, computer labs, and other educational environments to ensure digital safety and appropriate use.
- Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, CTE trainings, and industry collaboration opportunities.
- Prepares and maintains required documentation including grades, attendance, certifications, anecdotal records, and program reporting data.
- Reports incidents as needed to maintain student safety and adhere to school and district policies.
- Responds to emergency situations and technology-related issues appropriately.
- Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, and community members regarding the Digital Literacy program.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective program operation.
Preferred Qualifications
- CTE endorsement in Digital Literacy, Business & Marketing, Information Technology, or related field
- Experience teaching secondary students
- Knowledge of Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, learning management systems, and emerging educational technologies
- Understanding of digital citizenship, online safety, and cybersecurity fundamentals
- Industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft Office Specialist, Google Educator, IC3, or related) preferred
