Description
Position Summary:
Art Instructor position requires experience in teaching art to children and middle school students, as well as a strong desire to contribute to arts-related events. This position involves leading an art camps and classes for children, teaching children ages 6-12, and assisting with various arts events throughout the year.
Responsibilities:
Children Art Camps and Classes
· Plan, develop, and implement engaging and educational art lessons and projects for children ages 6–12 in both camp and class settings.
· Design and deliver a comprehensive art curriculum covering a variety of art techniques and mediums.
· Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs and skill levels of students.
· Maintain safe classroom management and supervise students at all times during classes and camps.
· Encourage creativity, experimentation, and confidence in young artists while supporting a positive and inclusive classroom culture.
· Prepare classroom materials before sessions and ensure proper cleanup and storage of art supplies following classes and camps.
· Assist with student check-in and dismissal procedures and communicate with parents/guardians when appropriate.
· Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
· Track attendance and provide brief program feedback to the Visual Arts & Education Manager.
· Organize art displays and exhibitions to showcase student work.
Event Support
· Assist with planning, organizing, and executing arts-related events, such as community art projects, occasional temporary art projects, and fundraising activities.
· Collaborate with other staff members and volunteers to ensure the success of events.
· Engage with the community to promote the organization's mission and programs.
Requirements
Qualifications and Requirements:
· Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
· Proven experience teaching art to children and middle school students.
· Strong knowledge of various art techniques, materials, and mediums.
· Maintain classroom supplies and equipment, ensuring a safe and organized workspace.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to create a positive and motivating classroom environment.
· Flexibility and willingness to assist with various tasks and events as needed.
· Passion for the arts and a commitment to fostering creativity in others.
· Experience working in a non-profit or community-based organization preferred.
· Background in organizing and supporting arts events preferred.
· Familiarity with current educational trends and techniques in art instruction.
· Punctuality and reliability are essential.
· Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Able to perform various physical duties, including the ability to exert or lift 25 pounds, and with minimal force to carry, lift, push, pull and otherwise move objects.
- Understanding of emergency protocols, fire safety regulations, and first aid procedures. CPR & First Aid certification a plus.
- Complete Mandated Reporter Training within 90 days of hire.
- Complete Harassment Prevention Training within 30 days of hire.
- Be able to pass a background check
