HR Consultant (HRC)
DEPARTMENT: Human Resources
POSITION:
The HR Consultant assists their assigned group of facilities in HR issues and questions. Partners closely with Administrators, DSDs and Payroll Coordinators to execute HR programs, services and solutions which support business goals and objectives.
REPORTING:
This position reports to the HR Consultant Lead
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Supports facility leadership with performance management, disciplinary and termination discussions
Ensures fair, consistent and objective interpretation and application of HR policy, procedures and processes, and local, state and federal laws and regulations
Provides HR expertise and guidance during facility initiatives
Acts as an HR resource and coach for all levels of facility leadership
Manages and helps resolve employee relations issues, in partnership with the HR Consultant Lead and facility leadership
Visits assigned sites on a regular and consistent cycle and as needed by the facility, but no less than once a month
Participates in the HR portion of the mock survey process, annual surveys, and other surveys as needed
Collaborates with DSDs to ensure post-audit corrections are complete and compliance is maintained
Drives and conducts ongoing HR audits (including licenses, certifications, onboarding documents, I-9s, wage and hour, ADP data accuracy, etc.) and reports results
Researches employee issues and concerns and reports in a clear, concise and detailed manner
Researches employee concerns, report findings in a clear and detailed manner, and manages each issue until it is fully resolved
Responds to general inquiries about HR programs and processes and escalates as appropriate
Conducts presentations on HR policies and initiatives when requested by facility management or HR Consultant Lead
Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations in partnership with the HR Consultant Lead and, if recommended, under the direction of legal
Responds to state and federal DOL investigations, EEOC or state agency complaints, and in response to legal actions, under direction of the HR Consultant Lead
Participates in preparing acquisitions for successful launches, including but not limited to distributing HR welcome kits, assisting with onboarding, and assisting with correction of onboarding issues as needed
Conducts 30/60/90-day HR compliance reviews for all acquisitions
Track and submit monthly HR information as required
Guide and train facility on structuring an immersive, supportive onboarding and orientation to ensure a consistent experience for new hires
Assists with site specific training (virtual or on-site) as needed to ensure compliance
Creates reports as requested
Participates in specific projects as determined by the HR Consultant Lead
Identifies new opportunities where HR can add value to the business
Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the HR department and services performed
May participate in the interview and selection process for HRCs
Maintains a knowledge of progressive HR practices and key trends
Facilitates long-term initiatives aligned with the strategic agenda

Ability to travel an average of 75% of the time, locally and out of area as needed to support and consult with sites; may occasionally involve out-of-state travel
Must be able to key information into computer systems
Maintain a neat, clean, well-groomed, professional appearance
Other duties as assigned by the HR Consultant Lead
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field
Professional designation of PHR or SPHR is preferred
Work Experience: At least 5 years’ experience as an HR Consultant
Experience in the skilled nursing industry is preferred but not required Multi-site environment - retail, hospitality, distribution center or service industries strongly preferred Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
Must have computer skills, including internet research and operating on-line applications Experience working with HRIS (cloud based) a plus, particularly ADP WorkForce Now
Language Skills:
• Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information, and to be easily understood through verbal communication in the English language.
• Must be able to read and interpret documents, such as letters, email communication, safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.
• Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Must be able to assist in developing forms and materials.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
Mathematical Skills:
• Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
Communication Skills:
• Must have exceptional communication and customer service skills and be empathetic.
• Must be able to speak effectively in interpersonal situations with employees, site leadership, executive leadership, outside resources and government agencies.
• Ability to engage, inspire and influence people and be empathetic.

• Comfortable providing coaching and feedback to all levels.
PHYSICAL CAPACITIES: (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)
• Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
• Must meet the general health requirements.
• Must be able to drive for facility visits.
• Must be able to stand for and walk for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Requires infrequent lifting of weight up to 50 pounds with assistance.
• Occasional pushing, pulling, bending and twisting.
• Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Inside work, normal temperatures, some noise, occasional fumes/odors, chemical exposure and exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an intimate, 24-hour skilled care environment that delivers care and services primarily to disabled and cognitively impaired residents in an aging population. Examples of these stresses include but are not limited to emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions to having a loved one in a nursing home, death and dying, oversight of state surveyors,
ombudsmen and federal officials, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff.
HIPAA is a law that must be followed by all healthcare personnel at every level. This position is a Mandated Reporter regarding the suspicion of elder abuse and may have access to Protected Health Information (PHI).
