Position Overview
WisdomWood High is seeking an organized and enthusiastic librarian who is passionate about books, literacy, and building a strong reading culture within the school. The librarian will be responsible for managing the daily functioning of the library, curating age-appropriate reading resources, and creating an environment that encourages students to explore and enjoy reading.
The role also involves working closely with teachers and students to support academic learning through library resources, reading programs, and research support.
Key Responsibilities
- Library Management
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library.
- Maintain and organize the library collection including books, reference materials, and other learning resources.
- Ensure proper cataloguing, classification, and shelving of all materials.
- Manage book circulation including issuing, returning, and maintaining library records.
- Ensure that the library space remains organized, welcoming, and conducive to reading and learning.
- Reading Culture and Student Engagement
- Encourage students to develop strong reading habits through regular interaction and guidance.
- Curate age-appropriate books and reading materials for different grade levels.
- Support reading initiatives such as reading weeks, storytelling sessions, book displays, and literary activities.
- Guide students in selecting books based on their interests and reading levels.
- Academic Support
- Collaborate with teachers to support classroom learning through relevant library resources.
- Assist students with research, projects, and accessing reference materials.
- Support students in developing basic research and information literacy skills.
- Library Development
- Assist in identifying and recommending new books and resources to expand the library collection.
- Maintain records of library inventory and ensure proper care and maintenance of books.
- Support the development of a dynamic and engaging library environment.
- Collaboration and School Initiatives
- Work closely with teachers and school leadership to integrate library resources into academic activities.
- Support school initiatives and events related to literature, reading, and storytelling.
- Contribute to building a culture of curiosity and independent learning within the school.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science (B.Lib.Sc.), Library and Information Science, or a related field is preferred.
- A Master’s Degree in Library Science (M.Lib.Sc.) will be an added advantage.
- Additional certifications in library management or information science are desirable.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience working in a school library or educational environment is preferred.
- Experience working with children and managing a library collection will be an advantage.
Skills and Attributes
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Passion for books, reading, and literacy development.
- Ability to engage positively with students and encourage reading habits.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with library cataloguing systems is preferred.
