Role Description The Librarian will manage the school library’s daily operations, including organizing, cataloging, and maintaining physical and digital collections. Responsibilities include assisting learners and staff in locating resources, recommending age-appropriate reading materials, and promoting reading habits through displays, events, and literacy programs. The Librarian will oversee book circulation, maintain accurate records, and ensure that library policies are followed. Additional tasks include coordinating with teachers to support classroom projects, updating inventories, and keeping the library space safe, welcoming, and conducive to learning. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Shirpur.
Qualifications
- Strong library management skills, including cataloging, classification, and organization of books and educational resources.
- Ability to guide learners and staff in information retrieval, basic research, and effective use of library materials and digital tools.
- Competence in maintaining accurate records, managing circulation systems, and using library or school management software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with learners, educators, and families in a school setting.
- Commitment to fostering a reading culture through events, book clubs, displays, and literacy initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, Education, or a related field; formal training in library science is an advantage.
- Prior experience in a school library or educational environment is preferred.
- Ability to maintain an inclusive, respectful environment and support learners of varied backgrounds and abilities.
