Job Purpose
The Senior SAN Storage Engineer provides technical skills that cover a broad range of disciplines and/or a particular technical discipline that is of significance to HCA. Perform any technical project assigned with minimal supervision. Identify, investigate, evaluate, and become proficient in new technologies and technical disciplines that are of significance to HCA Healthcare.

The Senior PowerScale SAN/NAS Storage Engineer provides high-level technical expertise in the administration, engineering, and performance optimization of Dell PowerScale (Isilon) scale-out NAS environments across HCA Healthcare. This position is responsible for providing end-to-end management, cluster design, capacity planning, file system governance, and data protection strategies across multi-platform environments.
Primary duties include resolving complex infrastructure-related incidents, handling escalations from Tier 1/2 support, fulfilling Requests for Service (RFS), and managing cluster node additions, code upgrades, and SMB/NFS share management. The candidate will work closely with lifecycle engineers, server teams (Windows, Linux, VMware), and backup/network operations to ensure high availability, disaster recovery (SyncIQ), and efficient tiering (SmartPools). The qualified candidate will also drive remediation, automation of routine NAS operations, and mentor junior team members.
Major Responsibilities And Accountabilities
Core Responsibilities
- Data Protection: Monitor and maintain daily snapshot schedules using SnapshotIQ and file replication policies using SyncIQ.
- Hardware & Alerts: Monitor cluster health using the OneFS WebUI/CLI and CloudIQ. Respond to hardware alerts (drive failures, node faults) and coordinate part replacements with vendors.
- Incident Management: Serve as the primary operational support tier, resolving standard client connectivity issues (NFS/SMB) and mid-level performance bottlenecks.
- Provisioning & Access: Create and manage SMB/NFS shares, configure Access Zones, and manage user access permissions and SmartQuotas.
- Migration Execution: Assist in executing data migration plans from legacy NAS systems to PowerScale clusters, using tools such as rsync, EMCOPY, or Datadobi, ensuring data integrity and share validation.

Focus: Day-to-Day Operations, Active Migrations, & Cloud Tiering Operations
We are looking for a Level 2 Isilon/PowerScale Storage Administrator to manage, maintain, and support our enterprise Scale-Out NAS infrastructure. In this role, you will handle day-to-day operations, standard provisioning, performance monitoring, and active participation in data migration activities. You will work closely with senior engineering tiers to execute storage lifecycle tasks, manage file-level cloud tiering, and ensure the high availability of our file storage environment.
Execution, daily operations, and standard maintenance. Hands-on Skills: Provisioning: Creating/deleting SmartConnect zones, SMB shares, NFS exports, and directory quotas. Routine Monitoring: Managing drive/node alerts, health checks, and capacity monitoring using OneFS WebUI and CLI (isi commands).Basic Maintenance: Performing basic drive replacements, firmware updates, and log collection for vendor support. Permissions: Handling basic SMB/NFS access controls and standard Active Directory/LDAP integrations. Autonomy: Can handle standard work tickets and routine tickets independently, but may need guidance for complex migrations or major platform upgrades.

- Hands-on Experience: 3+ years of dedicated experience administering Dell Isilon/PowerScale clusters running the OneFS operating system.
- Protocols & Permissions: Solid operational knowledge of NAS protocols (NFS, SMB) and basic NTFS and POSIX file permissions.
- CLI Basics: Proficiency with core isi command-line tools for operational verification, configuration checking, and basic troubleshooting.
- Process Discipline: Proven ability to follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and migration runbooks carefully to avoid operational downtime.
- Cloud Operations: Manage and monitor daily cloud data tiering operations utilizing CloudPools to offload cold data to public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

Certifications (Good to have)
