About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Paid Intern to join our healthcare organization for the summer. This is a unique cross-functional internship designed to give high-impact exposure across two critical business units: our Operations team and our Legal department.
The Paid Intern will primarily be embedded within the Operations team, supporting the management and improvement of operational workflows, patient care coordination, and operational efficiency initiatives. Throughout the summer, the intern will also complete a structured rotation with our Legal department, gaining exposure to healthcare compliance, regulatory affairs, and risk management.
This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about healthcare, eager to understand how organizations run behind the scenes, and excited to develop a cross-functional skill set.
POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations Team (Primary Assignment)
- Support the daily operations of operational programs, including scheduling, patient intake coordination, and workflow optimization.
- Assist in gathering and analyzing operational data to identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure seamless delivery of care services.
- Help develop and maintain internal documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and reporting dashboards.
- Participate in cross-departmental meetings and contribute to ongoing quality improvement projects.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and prepare summary reports for leadership review.
Legal Department (Rotation)
- Shadow legal counsel and compliance officers on matters related to healthcare regulations and healthcare law.
- Assist in reviewing and summarizing contracts, policies, and regulatory documentation.
- Support research on federal and state healthcare compliance requirements (e.g., DEA regulations, HIPAA, CMS guidelines related to healthcare operations).
- Help prepare briefing materials and internal memos for legal and compliance reviews.
- Participate in risk assessment exercises and compliance audits as appropriate.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed an undergraduate, graduate, or law degree program.
- Strong interest in healthcare operations, health policy, or healthcare law.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Coursework or experience in healthcare administration, public health, pre-law, or a related field, preferred.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, healthcare compliance, or healthcare policy, preferred.
- Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, or similar), preferred.
- Strong analytical mindset with an eye for process improvement, preferred.
