About the Role

An Insurance Authorization Coordinator is responsible for obtaining authorization via phone and online systems for facilities as needed. Critical requirement is communicating informational needs with both the insurance companies as well as the center staff as needed. Have in depth understand of benefits and authorizations on all fronts, both in and out of network, is crucial. 

Position’s Essential Responsibilities 

  • Insurance verification process. 
  • Ensure clarity in insurance coverage eligibility. 
  • Communicate regarding any emerging policy changes. 
  • Resolve patient billing questions and complaints. 
  • Initiate outbound calls that are effective in scope, and lead to successful patient verification and authorization requirements as needed. 
  • Fax/mail any relevant documentation for authorization requests to the appropriate individuals and follow up on all authorization requests prior to office visits/surgeries/procedures. 
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with multiple offices and facilities as questions arise regarding patient benefits and eligibility. 
  • Demonstrates ability to be team player. 
  • Under the direction of leadership works with necessary departments (e.g., Case Management, Medical Records, Patient Access, PFS Resolution Team, etc.) in order to drive process improvement and system edits. 
  • All other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • High School Diploma 
  • Minimum 2 years insurance verification experience in a medical office required 
  • Medical insurance verification and authorization experience preferred 
  • Listens well and devotes full attention to patients and medical professionals alike 
  • Has the ability to remain calm, even under the most stressful of situations 
  • Communicates well, both orally and in writing 
  • Can switch priorities based upon patient need 
  • Can maintain confidentiality 
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
