About the role
Deputy Manger- Legal operations drives the modernization of the Legal function through AI adoption, workflow automation, and intuitive reporting. The role owns the technology roadmap for legal operations — identifying opportunities to apply AI and automation to legal, compliance, and litigation processes; building dashboards that give leadership clear, real-time visibility into legal operations; and converting manual, spreadsheet-driven processes into structured digital workflows. The role also supports the organization on legal technology transactions, including platform evaluation, vendor selection, and implementation. This is a hybrid profile: someone equally comfortable in legal/compliance context and in technology delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. AI & Innovation in Legal Operations
- Evaluate, and lead the adoption of AI tools and use cases across legal, compliance, and litigation processes (e.g., contract review, legal research, matter triage, compliance monitoring).
- Build the business case for AI initiatives, pilot solutions, and scale successful pilots across the Legal function.
- Stay current on legal-tech and AI developments and bring relevant innovations into the organization.
2. Dashboards & Reporting
- Design and build intuitive, decision-ready dashboards for legal spend, matter status, compliance learning, and litigation tracking.
- Translate raw legal operations data into visual, easy-to-consume insights for leadership and business stakeholders.
- Own the end-to-end reporting cadence — periodic MIS, ad hoc leadership requests, and self-service reporting tools.
3. Process-to-Workflow Conversion
- Assess existing manual/spreadsheet-based legal operations processes (Brightflag matter & invoice management, CLM support, compliance learning administration, litigation tracking, SharePoint-based processes) and redesign them as structured, automated workflows.
- Build and maintain automation using Microsoft O365 tools (Power Automate, Power BI, SharePoint, Forms) and other workflow/no-code platforms.
- Define standard operating procedures for new workflows and drive adoption across the team.
4. Legal Technology Transaction Support
- Support the organization on legal-tech transactions — platform/tool evaluation, RFPs, vendor due diligence, and contracting for legal technology solutions (CLM, e-billing/matter management, compliance platforms, AI tools).
- Act as the technical/functional bridge between Legal function, IT, and external vendors during implementation and rollout of new legal technology.
- Own post-implementation platform support, upgrades, and continuous improvement for CLM, Brightflag, and Compliance Learning platforms.
5. Team & Stakeholder Leadership
- Act as the go-to person for the Legal functions on all things technology and automation, coordinating with business units, compliance, and IT.
- Mentor team members on tech tools, dashboarding, and automation practices, building a culture of continuous process improvement.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Demonstrated ability to drive AI adoption and translate AI capability into practical use cases within a legal/compliance/operations context.
- Strong dashboarding and data visualization skills (e.g., Power BI, Excel, or similar) with the ability to design for a non-technical, leadership audience.
- Hands-on workflow automation experience (Power Automate or equivalent no-code/low-code platforms), able to convert manual processes into digital workflows independently.
- Working understanding of legal technology transactions — platform evaluation, vendor management, contracting and implementation.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, able to work across legal, compliance, IT, and business teams.
- Structured, consultative approach to process assessment and re-design.
- Ability to operate independently and lead initiatives end-to-end with minimal supervision.
Qualifications & Experience
- 7-10 years of relevant experience, from either background:
- A technology professional who has worked on legal/compliance-facing projects (legal-tech implementations, CLM/e-billing platforms, legal AI tools, workflow/automation projects for a legal or compliance function); or
- A law firm or in-house legal/compliance professional who has led or been closely involved in technology, automation, or AI-driven transformation projects.
- Prior experience with legal technology platforms (Ironclad, e-billing/matter management systems such as Brightflag, compliance learning platforms) strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in law, Technology, Business Administration, or a related field; relevant certifications in AI, automation, or data analytics are a plus.
Key Interactions
- Internal: Legal function leadership, Compliance team, IT, business unit stakeholders.
- External: Legal technology and AI vendors, external counsel, platform implementation partners.
