Role: Legal Contracting Manager
Reports to: Supply Chain & SHE General counsel
Location: India - PUNE
Terms & Conditions: Full time, right to work required
Role Summary
The Legal Contracting Manager leading a team of contract lawyers on site plays a critical role in enabling efficient, compliant, and data‑driven contracting across the Supply Chain and HSE functions. In this role you are responsible for managing contract workflows, standardising contracting processes, driving visibility through data and reporting, and acting as a key interface between Legal, Business, Procurement, and external counsel.
Key Responsibilities
Contracting & Commercial Support
- Manage and oversee the full contract lifecycle, including drafting, negotiation support, review, execution, amendments, and renewals.
- Support Supply Chain and HSE stakeholders with timely, pragmatic legal contracting advice in line with company policies and risk appetite.
- Maintain and continuously improve contract templates, playbooks, fallback positions, and approval matrices.
- Coordinate with Procurement on contract strategy, use of standard terms, and negotiations with suppliers and partners.
Process & Governance
- Define, document, and maintain contracting processes, taxonomies, and classification standards (e.g. contract types, risk categories, approval levels).
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and accuracy across legal and contracting systems.
- Identify inefficiencies and lead continuous improvement initiatives across contracting workflows.
- Support compliance with internal controls, governance requirements, and audit expectations.
Support to Legal Strategy
- Translate data insights into clear, actionable recommendations for the Legal team and leadership.
- Support the creation of OKRs and KPIs for Legal Operations and Legal sub‑functions.
- Contribute to financial planning (budget, forecasts, savings tracking).
Technology & Legal Tools
- Act as the Legal contracting subject‑matter expert for Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) and related tools.
- Support implementation, optimisation, and ongoing improvement of legal technology solutions.
- Evaluate new tools and technologies that improve Legal SC & SHE efficiency.
Stakeholder & Change Management
- Translate legal and contract data into clear, actionable insights for Legal leadership and business stakeholders.
- Work closely with Legal Counsels, Legal Operations, IT, Procurement, Finance, and external partners.
- Act as a change agent for new processes, tools, and ways of working within the Legal function.
- Lead, manage, and coach on‑site Contract Lawyers, ensuring high‑quality, timely, and consistent legal contracting support.
- Provide day‑to‑day direction, workload prioritisation, and performance support for Contract Lawyers embedded in the business.
- Act as a people manager and role model, fostering a collaborative, engaged, and high‑performing contracting team.
- Build contracting capability through training, knowledge sharing, standardisation, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure effective team integration with Legal Counsels, Procurement, Supply Chain, and external stakeholders.
Requirements
Mandatory
- Proven experience in contract management, legal contracting, or legal operations within a corporate or legal environment.
- Ability to translate complex legal or contractual information into clear, business‑oriented messages.
- Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail and deadlines.
Preferred
- Previous experience in Procurement, Manufacturing or related contracting.
- Familiarity with legal technology platforms (CLM, e‑billing, matter management systems).
