Legal Associate, Commercial, Corporate & Regulatory
2–4 years’ PQE | Full-time consultancy | Remote
Septten Advisors is looking for a commercially minded lawyer from India to join our growing cross-border practice.
Septten is a UAE-based legal consultancy supporting founders, investors and regulated businesses operating across the Gulf, APAC and other high-growth markets. We work where legal, regulatory and commercial issues converge, helping clients structure, license, contract, raise, partner and scale.
Our work is not organised into narrow departmental silos. On one matter, we may act as embedded fractional general counsel to a growing international business. On another, we may support a financing or shareholder transaction, respond to a regulator, negotiate a strategic commercial agreement or help resolve an urgent dispute.
The role
This is a broad, execution-focused role for a lawyer who wants earlier responsibility, direct client exposure and the opportunity to develop into a trusted commercial and regulatory adviser.
You will work closely with Septten’s senior lawyers and directly with founders, investors, executives and regulated businesses. You will be expected to understand the client’s real objective, identify the issues that matter and turn legal analysis into practical action.
Your work may include:
- Acting as part of an embedded legal function for clients requiring fractional general counsel support.
- Drafting and negotiating commercial, technology, vendor, customer, partnership and services agreements.
- Supporting fundraising, investment, shareholder, governance, restructuring and strategic transaction work.
- Advising on regulatory perimeter, licensing, market entry and implementation issues involving fintech, virtual assets, payments, AI and emerging technology.
- Preparing regulatory submissions, enforcement responses, legal risk assessments and practical implementation plans.
- Supporting disputes, demand letters, settlement strategy and difficult stakeholder negotiations.
- Preparing board and shareholder materials, resolutions, minutes, action trackers and governance records.
- Coordinating with local counsel, regulators, corporate service providers and other specialist advisers across jurisdictions.
- Managing matters, deadlines and client communications with a high degree of ownership.
Who we are looking for
You should:
- Be a qualified lawyer with 2–4 years of post-qualification experience in India.
- Have strong training in commercial contracts, corporate transactions, technology, regulatory advisory or a combination of these areas.
- Be able to produce clear, accurate and commercially useful first drafts.
- Understand the difference between comprehensive legal research and advice that a client can actually use.
- Be comfortable working across unfamiliar subject matter and analysing new regulatory questions from first principles.
- Have the judgement to distinguish a material risk from a theoretical concern.
- Communicate confidently and precisely with counterparties.
- Be highly reliable, responsive and disciplined when working remotely.
- Be willing to take ownership while recognising when an issue must be escalated.
Experience involving fintech, payments, virtual assets, financial services, AI, data protection, technology businesses or cross-border transactions would be useful, but we are more interested in demonstrated judgement and adaptability than in sector labels alone.
This role may suit someone currently working in:
- A corporate, commercial, TMT or regulatory practice at a strong law firm.
- An in-house legal team at a technology, financial services, or growth-stage business.
- A smaller practice where they have already received unusually broad responsibility.
What the role offers
You will receive substantial exposure to live client decision-making and matters that cut across legal, regulatory, strategic and commercial considerations. You will work directly with senior advisers and have the opportunity to develop a genuinely cross-border practice rather than remaining confined to a narrow specialism.
Septten is a lean and evolving platform. The environment rewards initiative, precision, commercial curiosity, and people who improve how work gets done. It will not suit someone who needs every task to arrive with a settled process, complete facts and narrowly defined instructions.
Compensation
- All salaries benchmarked to Tier 1 law firms.
- Guaranteed one-month bonus and a two-month additional performance bonus.
- Profit participation in originated matters.
- Opportunity to travel for international mandates and conferences.
