Legacy Retirement Communities is now hiring for a Sous Chef position. We’re looking for someone who wants to cook real food, from scratch, from a diverse menu that changes regularly. You’ll be working with an extraordinary group of dedicated cooks and servers in a diverse teamwork environment. We offer a supportive atmosphere for either an experienced cook looking for a stable Monday through Friday daytime position, or an enthusiastic beginner who we will train.
Our Sous Chef is responsible for assisting the Executive Sous Chef with food preparation for all meals served to the residents. The Sous Chef will also be involved in other duties within the kitchen operation. This position will assume the responsibilities of the Executive Sous Chef in his/her absence. The Sous Chef will deliver high quality services in a manner consistent with the mission and values of the Legacy Retirement Communities and complies with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and assist with morning and afternoon meals. Assures the quality of these items before they are served to the residents.
- Communicate the menu options and any changes to the serving staff if requested by the Executive Sous Chef.
- Prep any food items that can safely be done for the next day.
- Assist the Executive Sous Chef with any food preparation as needed or requested.
- Assist with putting the weekly delivery away properly. This may include rotating stock, marking stock, etc.
- Notify the Executive Chef when supplies are not adequate or are not of the desired quantity.
- Perform kitchen cleaning duties on a daily basis and also performs cleaning duties that are on a rotating schedule.
- Assist with kitchen sanitation. This includes ensuring all areas of the kitchen are cleaned according to the daily, weekly, monthly schedules. Sanitation issues need to be brought to the attention of the Executive Chef.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director Dining Services, Executive Chef, Executive Sous Chef, or Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must possess or acquire a Prep/Cook (PC) Permit from the Lancaster County Health Department within 30 days of hire.
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen preferred.
- Must possess a high degree of interpersonal relations skills and capable of relating to a variety of people and personalities.
- Must be able to lift a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds. Must be able to stand, carry, stoop and walk for long periods of time to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively.
- Must be self-directed and motivated.
Working Conditions:
- May be exposed to body fluids, infection, odors and disruptive behavior of residents.
- May be exposed to chemicals/cleaning solutions.
