Job Title: Legacy Modernization Consultant (AS/400, RPG & Synon)
Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Legacy Modernization Consultant with strong expertise in AS/400, RPG, and Synon-based systems. The ideal candidate will play a key role in assessing, reverse engineering, and modernizing legacy applications while serving as a trusted advisor to clients throughout their digital transformation journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and assess existing AS/400, RPG, and Synon-based legacy systems to understand application architecture, business processes, and dependencies.
- Lead legacy system discovery and reverse engineering initiatives to document current-state applications and identify modernization opportunities.
- Act as a client-facing Subject Matter Expert (SME), engaging with business and technical stakeholders to gather requirements and provide modernization recommendations.
- Design and define modernization roadmaps, including migration strategies from legacy platforms to modern technology stacks such as Java, .NET, cloud-native, and microservices architectures.
- Collaborate with development, architecture, and delivery teams to drive modernization programs from assessment through implementation.
- Prepare technical documentation, system analysis reports, and target-state architecture recommendations.
- Identify risks, dependencies, and challenges associated with legacy transformation initiatives and provide mitigation strategies.
- Support proposal development, solutioning discussions, and client workshops related to modernization engagements.
Required Skills & Experience
- Significant hands-on experience working with IBM AS/400 (IBM i) environments.
- Strong expertise in RPG (RPG III/RPG IV/RPGLE) and Synon/Cool 2E development and maintenance.
- Proven experience in legacy application modernization and migration programs.
- Experience re-engineering legacy applications into modern technology platforms such as Java, .NET, Cloud, APIs, and Microservices.
- Strong understanding of application architecture, reverse engineering, and system discovery methodologies.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience facilitating client workshops, requirement gathering sessions, and architecture discussions.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud migration and digital transformation initiatives.
- Exposure to modernization tools, code analysis tools, and automated conversion frameworks.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and enterprise architecture practices.
- Experience in consulting or client-facing advisory roles is highly desirable.
