Job Description
Honeywell is seeking a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to serve as a Platform Architect and Technical Lead for our Common Services organization. In this high-impact role, you will define, design, and deliver enterprise-grade platform capabilities that underpin Honeywell's next-generation connected products and digital solutions. You will be the technical authority across Kubernetes-based infrastructure, API management, CI/CD pipelines, AI/ML platforms, and SRE practices - enabling hundreds of engineers to build and ship faster and more reliably.
This role demands a rare blend of deep architectural vision, hands-on engineering excellence, and the leadership ability to guide cross-functional teams. You will collaborate directly with product managers, senior engineering leaders, and external partners to shape the platform strategy that powers Honeywell's global digital transformation.
Responsibilities
Platform Architecture & Technical Leadership
▸ Architect, design, and govern enterprise-wide common services platforms including container orchestration, API ecosystems, and automation frameworks
▸ Define technical standards, patterns, and guardrails that promote consistency, scalability, and security across distributed engineering teams
▸ Lead architectural reviews, proof-of-concepts, and critical design decisions for platform-level initiatives
▸ Mentor and coach senior engineers; establish a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and collaborative problem-solving
Kubernetes & Cloud Infrastructure
▸ Design and operate production-grade Kubernetes clusters across multi-cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP) with high availability and zero-trust security models
▸ Drive adoption of Helm, Kustomize, and GitOps patterns (Flux/ArgoCD) for declarative infrastructure management
▸ Lead containerization and migration strategies for legacy workloads to cloud-native architectures
▸ Define node pool strategies, autoscaling policies, resource quotas, and cluster federation models
API Management & Integration
▸ Own the end-to-end API management strategy including design, gateway configuration, versioning, lifecycle management, and developer portals
▸ Evaluate and implement API management platforms (Kong, Apigee, Azure APIM) aligned to Honeywell's enterprise needs
▸ Define and enforce API governance policies covering authentication (OAuth2/OIDC), rate limiting, observability, and documentation standards
▸ Enable seamless internal and external API integrations across Honeywell's product portfolio
CI/CD & DevOps Engineering
▸ Architect and scale enterprise CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or equivalent tooling
▸ Implement shift-left quality practices including automated testing, static analysis, DAST/SAST, and policy-as-code
▸ Drive platform engineering practices: self-service developer toolchains, golden paths, and internal developer portals
▸ Lead adoption of software supply chain security (SBOM, artifact signing, vulnerability scanning) across delivery pipelines
AI/ML & Cognitive Services
▸ Architect AI/ML infrastructure including model training pipelines, feature stores, model registries, and scalable inference serving
▸ Integrate cognitive and generative AI capabilities (LLMs, computer vision, NLP) into Honeywell's product and platform offerings
▸ Partner with data science teams to operationalize ML models via MLOps frameworks (MLflow, Kubeflow, Azure ML)
▸ Evaluate and recommend AI/ML tooling and cloud services aligned to business use cases and compliance requirements
Python Development & Automation
▸ Design and develop high-quality Python-based platform services, automation tools, and internal libraries at scale
▸ Lead Ansible automation strategy for configuration management, infrastructure provisioning, and compliance enforcement
▸ Build reusable automation frameworks for self-healing operations, drift detection, and policy enforcement
▸ Promote clean code practices, code reviews, and software engineering best practices across the platform team
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
▸ Define and implement SRE practices including SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, and reliability roadmaps across critical services
▸ Drive observability maturity: distributed tracing (Jaeger/OpenTelemetry), centralized logging (ELK/Splunk), and metrics (Prometheus/Grafana)
▸ Lead incident management processes including blameless post-mortems, runbook automation, and chaos engineering initiatives
▸ Champion on-call excellence and sustainable reliability engineering culture across development and platform teams
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
▸ 10–15+ years of progressive software engineering experience with a strong platform or infrastructure engineering focus
▸ Proven track record as a technical architect or lead engineer delivering large-scale distributed systems in enterprise environments
▸ Deep hands-on expertise with Kubernetes in production (CKA/CKAD certification strongly preferred)
▸ Strong proficiency in Python for building services, automation frameworks, and tooling
▸ Extensive experience with Ansible for configuration management and infrastructure automation
▸ Demonstrated expertise designing and operating CI/CD pipelines at enterprise scale
▸ Experience with API management platforms and enforcing API governance across large engineering organizations
▸ Solid understanding of AI/ML lifecycle management and operationalizing machine learning models
▸ Hands-on SRE experience: defining SLOs, building observability stacks, and managing production reliability
▸ Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and cloud-native design principles
▸ Experience in security-first architecture: zero-trust networking, secrets management (Vault/Key Vault), and container security
▸ Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
▸ Experience in industrial IoT, operational technology (OT), or connected product platforms
▸ Familiarity with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd) and eBPF-based networking
▸ Background with platform engineering and internal developer portal tools (Backstage, Port)
▸ Exposure to regulatory compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, NERC CIP) in engineering contexts
▸ Certifications: CKA/CKAD, AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent
▸ Experience with Terraform or Pulumi for infrastructure-as-code alongside Ansible
