Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Development & Delivery
- Design, develop, and maintain applications using COBOL/JCL, DB2, VSAM, and related mainframe technologies
- Support batch processing and enterprise legacy applications
- Perform enhancements, defect fixes, and production support for critical systems
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure solutions meet business and performance requirements
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and mentor the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, and cross-functional teams
- Drive effective coordination across dependent teams
- Provide guidance through design reviews, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
Engineering Excellence
- Enforce coding standards, design best practices, and deployment processes
- Continuously improve system stability, reliability, and performance
- Identify and proactively address technical debt
- Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and regulatory requirements
Solution Design & Architecture
- Participate in technical design and solution discussions
- Make sound design decisions with proper trade-offs
- Contribute to improvement of system architecture and maintainability
Execution
- Drive delivery by removing roadblocks and coordinating across teams
- Ensure high-quality and timely execution of deliverables
- Support production deployments and manage issue resolution effectively
Strategy & Innovation
- Stay updated with industry trends in mainframe and legacy systems
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation
- Contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives and improvements
Mandatory Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of experience in COBOL/Mainframe development (COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM)
- Strong understanding of batch processing and mainframe architecture
- Experience in production support, debugging, and performance tuning
- Ability to work on complex and unfamiliar legacy systems
- Experience working with file processing, scheduling tools, and job monitoring systems
Technical Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to identify risks, dependencies, and system impacts proactively
- Experience with version control tools (Git) and SDLC processes
- Exposure to tools like JIRA, Confluence
- Understanding of enterprise system integration patterns
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in engineering and related field.
8+ years of experience in
COBOL/Mainframe development (COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM)
