About The Team
The TMS (Transportation Management System) team builds and operates the platforms that orchestrate shipment execution across our supply chain—tendering, tracking, appointments, and freight workflows.
We deliver scalable, resilient microservices and integrations that connect carriers, distribution centers, and downstream systems through API-first and event-driven architectures.
Our work directly impacts on-time delivery, transportation cost, and customer experience, especially during peak volume and high-availability events.
Job Summary
Provide technical leadership and hands-on engineering for complex, business-critical Java platforms and services. Translate business requirements and functional specifications into resilient, scalable, and maintainable program designs; lead implementation and ongoing maintenance of enterprise software solutions; and serve as a technical expert across the delivery lifecycle. This role designs and develops complex code modules and integrated microservices, drives engineering excellence (quality, security, and reliability), and mentors engineers while aligning solutions to Lowe’s enterprise architecture standards and recommended engineering platforms.
Roles & Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of integrated enterprise applications and microservices to meet scalability, performance, security, availability, and maintainability requirements.
- Design, develop, and maintain distributed systems and event-driven applications.
- Build scalable APIs and backend platforms capable of handling high transaction volumes.
- Develop complex Java applications using Spring Boot and modern engineering practices such as SOLID, Clean Architecture, and DDD.
- Provide technical leadership through HLD/LLD creation, API contracts, data modeling, and integration design.
- Drive architecture discussions and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and reference architectures.
- Resolve complex cross-application issues and lead initiatives with significant business impact.
- Collaborate closely with product managers and business stakeholders to translate product roadmaps into scalable technical solutions.
- Design and optimize NoSQL and relational database solutions.
- Build event-driven and reactive solutions using Kafka, asynchronous processing, and non-blocking patterns.
- Implement and enforce engineering best practices including code reviews, static analysis, automated testing, and secure coding standards.
- Ensure adherence to security best practices including authentication, authorization, least privilege access, and OWASP guidelines.
- Partner with DevOps/SRE teams to improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, environment configuration, and production monitoring.
- Drive operational excellence through disaster recovery planning, capacity planning, observability, performance testing, and incident management.
- Support production systems, troubleshoot critical issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes.
- Build and maintain observability dashboards, alerts, and operational runbooks.
- Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, and performance optimization activities.
- Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers through technical guidance, pair programming, and structured feedback.
- Collaborate effectively with global cross-functional teams in Agile environments.
- Conduct Proof of Concepts (POCs) and evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and engineering capabilities.
- Continuously improve engineering processes, simplify solutions, and remove technical bottlenecks.
- Drive adoption of enterprise-recommended frameworks, tools, engineering platforms, and architectural standards.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, and highly available.
Years Of Experience
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering and backend development.
- 5+ years of experience building microservices and distributed systems.
- Strong experience in enterprise-scale product development.
- Experience working in Retail or Supply Chain domains preferred.
- Transportation and logistics domain knowledge is an added advantage.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications / Certifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field.
- Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Developer/Architect) and/or Kubernetes certifications (CKA/CKAD) are a plus.
- Security and quality certifications (e.g., Secure Coding, OWASP training) are a plus.
