Role:Lead SDET (Quality & Release)
Location: Gurgaon, India (On-site)
Employment Type: Full-time
Experience Required: 5 – 6+ years
ABOUT
Visitly is a visitor management platform used across 25+ countries by enterprises with serious security requirements — Fortune 500 companies spanning technology, cybersecurity, hardware and transportation. When someone walks into one of their lobbies, our software is what stands between the front door and the building.
We’re hiring our first Lead SDET to own quality and release engineering end to end.
WHY THIS ROLE IS INTERESTING
Our failure modes are real ones. A badge that doesn’t print stalls a lobby. A broken SSO integration locks out a customer’s entire security team. Tenant isolation has to hold absolutely, every time.
And the surface we have to cover is genuinely hard: a Java/Spring Boot backend, an Angular web app, a React Native mobile app, an iPad kiosk, physical badge printers and badge readers, 50+ third-party integrations, and multi-tenant architecture underneath all of it.
Testing everything isn’t an option. Deciding what matters most, and being right about it, is the job.
WHAT YOU’LL OWN
- Quality strategy — build the risk model for our product: which flows must never break, what depth of coverage each one deserves, and where automation earns its maintenance cost
- The automation layer — shape our test architecture at the right levels, integrated into CI, fast enough that engineers rely on it rather than route around it
- Release management — own the release gate, go/no-go, staged rollout, and rollback. You’ll have real authority here and the backing to use it
- The team — lead and grow a small QA team, hands-on alongside them
- Production feedback — close the loop between what happens in the field and what we test, including the observability that makes debugging fast
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- 5–6+ years in software quality, with meaningful time at a product company — somewhere you shipped your own software to your own customers and lived with the consequences
- You write code. Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript — the language matters less than the fact that you build tools rather than only use them
- You’ve built or substantially rebuilt an automation framework and put it into CI, and can explain the trade-offs you made
- You’ve owned or co-owned a release process, and you’ve been in a production incident
- You have opinions about testing that you can argue for — and that you’ve changed at least once
Bonus: hardware or device matrices, multi-tenant SaaS, SSO/SAML/SCIM, mobile or kiosk testing.
WHO THIS ISN’T FOR
We’ll be direct, because it saves us both time.
This isn’t a role where you bring the process that worked at your last company and install it here. Our constraints are different — smaller team, faster cycles, stranger test surface, higher stakes per defect. A playbook built for a twenty-person QA org and a two-week regression cycle won’t survive contact with how we work.
It’s also not a role for a pure QA management profile. If your experience is running testing as a separate function or a services engagement — headcount, test case volume, defect throughput — this will be a poor fit in both directions.
We care much less about test case counts, certifications, or deep expertise in one specific tool. We care much more about how you decide what’s worth testing when you can’t test everything, what you do when there’s no spec and the person who built the feature has moved on, and whether you can change your mind when the evidence changes.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Full ownership of a function, built from the ground up, with a direct line to leadership
- Meaningful equity in a profitable, growing company
- Competitive compensation for a Gurgaon-based product role
- A hard technical problem, with enterprise customers who hold us to a high bar
- No layers between you and the decisions
HOW TO APPLY
Send your CV and a short note answering one question: what’s the most useful thing you’ve ever decided NOT to test, and why?
We read every one, and the note matters more to us than the CV.
