Job Title: Lead Production Planner
Department: Demand Planning
Reports To: Corporate Planning Manager

Ob Summary
The Lead Production Planner is responsible for creating and maintaining production plans that support inventory programs and plant finite schedules. In addition to performing advanced production planning responsibilities, this role serves as a lead individual contributor, providing day-to-day guidance, training, and coaching to Production Planners and cross-functional partners.
This role acts as a subject matter expert, supports consistency in planning practices, and serves as a point of escalation for complex planning, capacity, and inventory issues, while not having direct supervisory or people-management responsibility. The role impacts between $30–50 million in product sales, $20–40 million in production cost, and $3–5 million in inventory value.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Regularly meets with assigned plants to arrange orders into optimal sequential work schedules and provides appropriate lead times to Customer Service.
- Examines production specifications and capacity data and performs calculations to determine production processes and requirements for NPD.
- Meets weekly with assigned plants to review performance for schedule adherence and overproduction and drives corrective actions.
- Establishes and maintains frozen schedules aligned with business requirements.
- Manages stocking programs to ensure demand-to-forecast performance and supply execution are within plan.
- Reviews finished goods inventory to identify orphan or SLOB inventory and initiates corrective actions.
- Reviews plant lead times weekly and drives actions to achieve targeted lead time levels.
- Serves as a lead individual contributor and subject matter expert for production planning processes and tools.
- Provides training, onboarding support, and ongoing coaching to Production Planners.
- Acts as a go-to resource for complex planning, scheduling, capacity, and inventory issues.
- Supports development and documentation of standard work and planning best practices.
- Reviews work outputs as needed to promote accuracy and consistency without formal performance management responsibility.
- Escalates significant risks or systemic issues to management with analysis and recommendations.
- Partners cross-functionally to resolve issues and drive continuous improvements.

Requirements

Education Requirement/Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, business, economics, or related discipline.
- 10 years of experience in production order management.
- 5 years of experience in inventory management.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CPIM and/or CSCP certification preferred.
- Manufacturing industry experience preferred.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient with Microsoft Office -- MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and have experience with ERP, preferably NetSuite. Strong proficiency in MRP systems, workflow, and scheduling systems.
