Role Description
Job Summary
Utility (Electricity, Gas, etc.) Tariff Analyst is responsible for creating, testing, and maintaining precise and accurate utility tariff calculation models that guide billing and analytics for utility customers using proprietary tools.
These tariff models form the core of end products and therefore must be highly accurate and reliable. The role requires strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, willingness to learn new tools and technologies, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
The position also requires knowledge of database concepts and provides an opportunity to contribute toward efficient energy consumption practices and a cleaner energy future.
In addition to the above responsibilities, the Sr/Lead Utility Tariff Analyst will be responsible for driving end-to-end deliverables, mentoring team members, ensuring team motivation, and implementing automation and efficiency improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Understand complex utility tariffs, rates, and programs; convert them into system models and maintain/update them based on evolving requirements.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with delivery teams to ensure successful completion of deliverables from initiation to closure.
- Assist delivery teams in validating client input data required for tariff modeling.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues related to tariff logic in internal tools and external products.
- Drive Agile sprint ceremonies and motivate team members toward achieving committed sprint goals.
- Ensure proper validation and regression testing of products and adherence to change management processes during tariff model releases.
- Resolve discrepancies between shadow bills and actual utility bills.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities and process improvement initiatives to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy.
- Mentor and guide team members by sharing knowledge and supporting the growth of senior analysts.
- Ensure continuous creation and maintenance of documentation related to requirements, enhancements, and developed processes.
Required Qualifications (Must Have)
- 6–8 years of overall industry experience.
- Experience leading or mentoring teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in an analytical discipline such as Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fields.
- Strong proficiency in Advanced Microsoft Excel functions and Pivot Tables.
- Good understanding of relational database concepts and hands-on experience with SQL queries.
- Experience in programming using Python and/or Shell scripting.
- Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated aptitude for innovation and process improvement.
- Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications (Good To Have)
- Experience in the Energy/Utility industry with understanding of electricity or gas tariffs.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel Macros and Power Query.
- Passion for working with data and data analysis.
- Experience working in Agile SCRUM environments.
