About the role:
We are on a mission to reinvent how designers work in the AI era. Backed by leading investors from OpenAI, Google, Stripe, Notion, and Dropbox, we are building a next-generation AI design tool for modern product teams.
We are hiring a Lead/Staff Frontend Engineer to serve as the technical anchor for our frontend organization. In this role, you will drive technical excellence across the product, solving complex challenges such as maintaining high performance on canvases with thousands of AI-generated nodes and architecting real-time collaborative systems.
This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you will balance deep coding work with long-term architectural direction and team mentorship.
Key responsibilities:
- Own frontend architecture including module boundaries, state/data flow, rendering strategy, and extensibility
- Drive the frontend roadmap through RFCs and architecture reviews, balancing speed with long-term maintainability
- Own and optimize frontend performance across large documents, long-running sessions, and memory usage
- Establish high standards for testing, CI/CD quality gates, observability, and release reliability to maintain a zero-regression culture
- Collaborate closely with Design, Product, and Backend teams on tradeoffs, API design, and system architecture
- Mentor engineers and elevate frontend engineering standards through code reviews, guidance, and technical sessions
What we are looking for:
- 5+ years of experience building large-scale web applications, including frontend architecture ownership in a Lead or Staff capacity.
- Strong expertise in React and TypeScript, with experience building complex, high-performance UIs
- Proven experience building complex UI systems such as editors, canvases, node-based tools, timelines, or multi-pane interfaces
- Deep understanding of modern state management solutions (e.g., Zustand, Recoil, Jotai, Redux) and reactive programming
- Demonstrated ability to optimize performance (rendering, memory usage, scalability) in real-world applications
- Strong systems thinking with experience in API design and distributed systems
- Experience owning build tooling, testing strategies, and observability at scale
