Burns & McDonnell India (BMI) Power Division is looking for Lead Document Controller in Project Services department at our Mumbai Office. The Power Division focuses on power generating facilities, which offer a wide range of design and project execution experiences. Power group is involved in design and evaluation of mechanical systems associated with coal and natural gas-fired power generation facilities as well as associated support facilities (i.e. Gas turbines, Steam Turbines, Heat Recovery Generators and Balance of plant equipment to be designed and constructed as per applicable codes and standards). The Lead Document Controller is responsible for overseeing document management processes to ensure accurate control, distribution, storage, and retrieval of project and organizational documents. The role involves supervising document control teams, maintaining document management systems, ensuring compliance with company standards, and supporting project teams with effective documentation practices.

- Document Management
- Establish, implement, and maintain document control procedures and standards.
- Manage the creation, review, approval, distribution, and archiving of documents.
- Ensure all documents are properly classified, indexed, and stored in document management systems.
- Lead and supervise document control staff.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide training and guidance.
- Ensure consistent adherence to document control procedures across projects.
- Manage electronic document management systems (EDMS) such as SdX,Aconex, SharePoint, or Documentum.
- Maintain document registers, metadata, and version control.
- Ensure secure access and data integrity.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, project specifications, and standards such as ISO 9001.
- Conduct periodic document audits and maintain revision histories.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, consultants, and contractors to manage document submissions and approvals.
- Ensure timely distribution of approved documents to relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare document control reports including document status, transmittals, and overdue documents.
- Track document progress and provide updates to project management.
- Having a learning attitude towards new technologies/Innovation such as Power BI, Artificial Intelligence and applying it to day to day work
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, Information Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- 10-12 years of experience in document control, preferably in engineering, construction, oil & gas, or infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience leading a document control team.
- Strong knowledge of document control procedures and standards.
- Experience with EDMS tools such as SDx Aconex, SharePoint, or Documentum.
- Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with large EPC or infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of engineering document workflows and drawing control.
- Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001.
