Role Description
The Lead Data Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Pune City. This role is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and data platforms that support analytics, reporting, and product features across ExH1B’s services. Day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with product, engineering, and business teams to define data requirements, integrating data from multiple internal and external sources, and ensuring data quality, security, and reliability. The Lead Data Engineer will also architect and optimize data warehouses, implement best practices for data modeling and ETL/ELT processes, and oversee performance tuning and cost optimization of data infrastructure. In addition, this role provides technical leadership to the data engineering team, mentors team members, and contributes to strategic decisions around data tools, architecture, and governance.
Qualifications
- Strong experience in data engineering, including designing and implementing data pipelines, ETL/ELT workflows, and data integration solutions.
- Proficiency with modern data platforms and tools (e.g., cloud data warehouses, distributed processing frameworks, streaming technologies).
- Advanced skills in SQL and one or more programming languages commonly used in data engineering (such as Python, Scala, or Java).
- Hands-on experience with data modeling, performance optimization, and managing large-scale structured and unstructured datasets.
- Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance practices, including access control, encryption, and data quality frameworks.
- Background in building analytics-ready datasets for BI tools and collaborating with data analysts and data scientists.
- Proven ability to lead technical projects, mentor team members, and establish engineering standards and best practices.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
