POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Consultant is a senior leadership position responsible for the holistic delivery of Coign’s client engagements and the operational excellence of the Consulting and Design Team. The incumbent will lead and mentor a team of Sr. Consultants, Consultants and Designers, ensure the quality, accuracy and rigour of all data analysis and warehouse solution design outputs, and serve as the senior point of contact for clients across active projects.
Beyond delivery, the incumbent will drive department and internal process improvement initiatives, establish and uphold quality standards, and oversee project billing and commercial hygiene. The role demands deep knowledge of warehousing operations, design principles, storage systems, MHE, automation, and technology solutions, combined with the leadership ability to build and sustain a high-performing consulting team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Analysis & Solution Development
- Conduct site studies, operational audits, gap analysis, and pre-design assessments
- Mentor and guide the analysis of inventory, throughput, and operational data for solution development
- Drive capacity planning, resource modelling, and productivity benchmarking
- Develop warehouse layouts, material and process flows, and space optimization strategies
- Conceptualize and develop mechanization and automation solutions
Commercial & RFQ Support
- Evaluate commercial feasibility of proposed solutions
- Drive and Develop CAPEX and OPEX models with ROI analysis
- Lead costing and solution development for 3PL/RFQ responses
Project & Solution Ownership
- Lead multiple projects covering assessment, design, and solution delivery
- Review and evaluate solution development, layout planning, process design, and infrastructure solutions for operational soundness, spatial optimisation, process logic and alignment with client requirements.
- Ensure quality and consistency of deliverables across engagements
Team Management
- Manage and mentor consultants/program managers across projects
- Allocate projects and resources across the team to ensure balanced workloads, optimal utilisation, and timely project delivery.
- Establish a culture of accountability, continuous learning and structured problem-solving within the department.
- Ensure adherence to timelines, quality standards, and internal processes
- Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular reviews and appraisals, and develop the team’s functional and consulting capabilities.
- Drive capability building and skill development initiatives for the team through structured training programs, tool adoption, and continuous knowledge sharing sessions.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the senior client-facing representative across active engagements — manage expectations, resolve escalations, and maintain strong, trusted relationships.
- Lead or participate in key client presentations, site visits, review meetings and project kick-offs.
Implementation & Vendor Support
- Review vendor proposals for fit-outs, equipment, and automation
- Support technical evaluation, selection, and commissioning alignment
Organizational Responsibilities
- Support Business Development through technical inputs, proposal reviews and participation in client pitches where required.
- Participate in Business Development conversations, providing technical credibility and depth during client interactions and proposal development.
- Identify and drive structured improvement initiatives within the department to enhance delivery efficiency, output consistency and team productivity.
- Develop, document and enforce internal SOPs, templates, checklists and project workflows that standardise how engagements are scoped, executed, reviewed and closed.
- Work cross-functionally with Design, Business Development and Leadership to streamline the overall project lifecycle and client experience.
- Support the leadership team in scope change management, fee negotiations and commercial discussions where required.
- Contribute to Coign’s knowledge repository — including case studies, design precedents, and lessons learnt from completed projects.
- Represent Coign at industry forums, conferences and client events where appropriate.
- Participate in the ideation and execution of marketing and thought leadership initiatives.
- Drive financial planning for the function, including revenue cashflow forecasting for onboarded clients, departmental expense budgeting, and setting repeat business targets, sales budgets and strategy.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills — equally effective in client-facing and internal team settings.
- Strong data analysis skills — proficiency in Microsoft Excel for statistical analysis, storage and throughput modelling, SKU profiling and capacity calculations.
- Ability to read, review and provide functional direction on AutoCAD warehouse layout drawings (Plan, Elevations and Sections).
- Proficiency in MS PowerPoint for developing structured, client-ready design presentations and reports.
- Proficiency in MS Projects.
- In-depth knowledge of warehousing operations, processes, storage systems (racking, shelving, mezzanines), Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and automation solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in managing client relationships and leading multi-party project teams.
- Strong planning, scheduling and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously.
- Structured thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to validate complex design outputs against functional and data-driven criteria.
- Leadership maturity — the ability to mentor and develop a team while maintaining high delivery standards.
ADDED ADVANTAGE
- Working Knowledge of WMS and ERP platforms, and warehouse technology applications
- Experience in SOP development for warehouse operations.
