Lead Commissioning Engineer (Lead Cx Engineer – Semiconductor Fabs)

Role Overview
The Lead Commissioning Engineer – Electrical (MV/HV & LV) is responsible for the hands-on execution and coordination of commissioning activities for electrical power distribution systems within semiconductor fabrication facilities. This role ensures reliable, safe, and compliant operation of medium voltage (MV), high voltage (HV), and low voltage (LV) systems, while integrating seamlessly with process tools, facility systems, and automation platforms.
Key Responsibilities Technical Commissioning Execution
- Lead commissioning of electrical systems including:
- MV/HV systems: Substations, transformers, switchgear, protection relays
- LV systems: Power distribution panels, MCCs, UPS systems, DG systems
- Power supply to semiconductor process tools and critical utilities
- Perform:
- Energization procedures and system start-up
- Protection relay testing and coordination
- Load testing and power quality analysis
- Execute and review:
- Commissioning procedures and electrical test scripts
- FAT/SAT protocols
- System validation and performance testing
System Integration
- Ensure alignment between:
- Electrical systems and process tool requirements
- Facility infrastructure and critical power distribution
- Automation systems (BMS, SCADA, MES interfaces)
- Coordinate integration of backup power systems (UPS, DG) with critical fab loads
- Identify and resolve electrical interface issues across disciplines
Coordination & Supervision
- Coordinate with:
- Electrical vendors, subcontractors, and OEM tool suppliers
- Mechanical, process, and controls engineering teams
- Support Commissioning Manager in:
- Schedule tracking and execution
- Issue resolution and risk management
- Reporting progress and commissioning status
- Supervise junior electrical engineers and technicians
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure systems meet:
- Electrical safety standards and regulatory compliance
- Operational reliability and redundancy requirements
- Cleanroom and fab operational constraints
- Maintain:
- Test reports and commissioning documentation
- Turnover packages and as-built drawings
- Verification of protection schemes and interlocks
Required Experience & Qualifications Experience
- 8–15 years of commissioning experience in:
- Electrical systems (MV/HV & LV) within semiconductor fabs or similar high-tech/critical facilities
- Experience across multiple systems, not limited to single equipment
- Proven involvement in:
- Installation → Energization → Commissioning → Start-up → Ramp support
Technical Skills
- Strong working knowledge of:
- MV/HV switchgear, transformers, and protection systems
- LV distribution, UPS, DG systems, and critical power supply
- Electrical safety systems and interlocks
- Integration of electrical systems with process tools and fab utilities
- Automation interfaces (BMS/SCADA)
- Understanding of overall fab utilities (HVAC, UPW, gases) for integration
Skills
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capability
- Ability to work across multiple disciplines and vendor teams
- Hands-on site commissioning experience
- Strong documentation and reporting skills
Education
- Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or related technical field
