Cllr is an autonomous revenue intervention platform for recurring-revenue businesses.
About the Role
We're looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to own the systems powering Cllr's autonomous revenue intervention engine. You'll design and build the event-driven infrastructure that transforms revenue signals into real-world actions across voice, WhatsApp, SMS, and email.
This role sits at the intersection of distributed systems, AI-native applications, and high-volume transaction processing, with responsibility for architecture, execution, and production reliability. You'll be shipping production-grade systems designed to scale from thousands to millions of interventions with sub-two-second latency.
What You'll Do
- Build the Autonomous Intervention Platform: Develop and deploy the core backend services that power Cllr's intervention engine, turning architectural decisions into scalable, production-ready systems.
- Own High-Volume Revenue Event Systems: Design and operate the signal-processing, usage, and transaction pipelines that power Cllr's platform, ensuring reliability, observability, and scalability.
- Design Event-Driven Systems: Architect and build resilient distributed systems using queues, workflows, retries, scheduling, and asynchronous processing to reliably execute interventions at scale.
- Integrate AI-Native Infrastructure: Work directly with LLM orchestration frameworks, agentic workflows, and multi-channel delivery infrastructure to build interventions that reach customers at the right moment.
- Drive High-Velocity Execution: Fully integrate AI coding assistants into your daily workflow to ship end-to-end features from scratch - quickly and with quality.
- Lead Technical Direction: Set architectural standards, conduct code reviews, mentor engineers, and help shape the long-term technical direction of the platform.
- Own Production Systems: Take responsibility for observability, reliability, incident response, performance, and operational excellence across the services you build.
- Build Reliable Async Infrastructure: Own job queues and workflow systems using BullMQ, trigger.dev, and similar tooling that power Cllr's real-time signal-to-action pipeline.
What We're Looking For
Required
- Strong Backend Foundation (6+ Years): Proven track record building and maintaining robust Node.js and Python services and APIs. You deeply understand scale, performance, reliability, and distributed systems.
- Event-Driven Architecture Expertise: Deep understanding of asynchronous systems, queues, retries, idempotency, workflow orchestration, and distributed system design.
- High-Volume Transaction Systems Experience: Hands-on experience operating systems that process large volumes of financial, operational, or usage-based transactions with high reliability.
- Message Queue and Workflow Expertise: Practical experience with BullMQ, Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, Temporal, Trigger.dev, Celery, Sidekiq, or similar messaging and workflow platforms.
- Hands-On Builder: You love writing code and want to stay close to the implementation. You take pride in shipping clean, efficient, well-tested software.
- AI-Augmented Developer: You actively use tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar AI assistants to increase productivity and accelerate execution. You see AI as a core part of modern engineering.
- High Agency and Resourcefulness: You take ownership from inception to deployment, proactively solve problems, and thrive in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
Nice to Have
- AI Ecosystem Familiarity: Practical experience building AI-powered products using LLMs, agents, RAG systems, orchestration frameworks, or adjacent technologies.
- Experience in BFSI, telecom, SaaS, or other recurring-revenue businesses.
- Experience building products that operate in real time or at high scale.
- Experience at early-stage or high-growth startups.
