About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Backend Developer to join our dynamic team at Unified Web Services. In this critical role, you will take ownership of our existing backend architecture, lead ongoing development efforts, and ensure the stability and scalability of our production systems. This position requires a hands-on leader who can audit, optimize, and future-proof our backend infrastructure, making strategic technical decisions that align with our business goals. You will be responsible for defining the technical direction, maintaining code quality, and mentoring junior developers to foster a high-performing development environment.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 6+ years of professional experience in backend development, with at least 4+ years of strong Python production experience. Proven experience in owning and scaling live applications is essential, along with prior leadership or mentorship roles within backend teams. Candidates should have a deep understanding of backend architecture, system design, and best practices for building reliable, scalable applications. Strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and a proactive approach to technical challenges are crucial for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Take full technical ownership of the backend system, including architecture, performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
- Conduct comprehensive audits of the existing codebase and infrastructure, identify gaps, and implement architectural improvements to enhance system robustness.
- Define and execute the backend development roadmap, making informed technical decisions aligned with business objectives.
- Manage and maintain all development and production environments, including staging, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment workflows to ensure seamless releases.
- Oversee AWS infrastructure components such as EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, and networking, ensuring system reliability, security, and cost efficiency.
- Establish and enforce GitHub repository standards, branching strategies, pull request processes, and code review practices to uphold code quality.
- Lead structured code reviews, promote coding standards, and ensure high test coverage across the development team.
- Refactor legacy codebases to improve scalability, performance, and security, ensuring the backend remains robust and future-proof.
- Design and develop new backend features with a focus on modularity, scalability, and maintainability.
- Optimize database design, indexing, and query performance, leveraging PostgreSQL and SQLAlchemy ORM capabilities.
- Oversee deployment processes, monitor system health, and troubleshoot incidents to maintain production stability.
- Integrate third-party services and APIs securely, ensuring seamless communication between external systems and our backend infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with frontend teams, product managers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective backend solutions.
- Mentor junior developers, foster technical growth within the team, and ensure timely delivery of backend projects.
