Role Description The Lead AI Engineer - Voice AI is a full-time remote role responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing core Voice AI systems used in restaurant drive-thrus. This position oversees the development of models for speech understanding, dialog management, and real-time inference, ensuring high accuracy and reliability in production environments. The role includes leading a small team of engineers and researchers, setting technical direction, and collaborating with product, operations, and customer success teams to translate business needs into scalable AI solutions. Day-to-day tasks involve building and refining machine learning pipelines, reviewing code and system architectures, monitoring performance metrics, and driving continuous improvement of deployed models. The Lead AI Engineer also contributes to technical roadmaps, evaluates new technologies, and helps establish best practices for AI development, testing, and deployment.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Computer Science and Software Development, including data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and production-grade coding practices.
- Expertise in Pattern Recognition and Neural Networks, with experience designing, training, and evaluating deep learning models for real-world applications.
- Hands-on experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Voice AI technologies, including speech recognition, intent classification, and dialog systems.
- Proficiency with modern machine learning frameworks and tooling (e.g., Python, PyTorch or TensorFlow, MLOps platforms, cloud services such as AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects or teams, mentor other engineers, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners.
- Experience deploying and maintaining AI systems in production, including monitoring, performance optimization, and iterative model improvement.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience is also valued.
- Background in real-time or edge AI applications, conversational AI, or work with QSR, retail, or similar customer-facing environments is a plus.
