Havells Centre for Research & Innovation (CRI) is looking for a Lead/Principal Actuator Engineer to drive the design and development of advanced robotic actuators for emerging applications in Humanoids, Quadrupeds, Cobots, Surgical Robotics, and Industrial Automation. The role offers an opportunity to own the complete actuator development journey—from architecture definition and precision gear design to validation and production readiness.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of high-performance Strain-Wave (Harmonic Drive) and Quasi-Direct-Drive (QDD) actuators.
- Define actuator specifications based on robot kinematics, torque-speed requirements, thermal constraints, stiffness, backlash, and lifecycle targets.
- Drive end-to-end development of motors, gearing, bearings, encoders, sensing systems, brakes, and actuator housing architecture.
- Develop precision gear solutions and collaborate closely with vendors on gear manufacturing, heat treatment, tolerancing, and quality standards.
- Architect integrated actuator systems including motor control, sensing, communication protocols, and robotic control interfaces.
- Establish validation methodologies and lead performance, thermal, durability, fatigue, stiffness, hysteresis, and lifecycle testing.
- Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM), cost optimization, and production readiness to enable scalable deployment.
- Work directly with customers and robotics teams to translate application requirements into robust and manufacturable actuator solutions.
Desired Expertise
- Deep expertise in robotic actuation, precision mechanics, motion systems, and electromechanical product development.
- Strong background in frameless BLDC/PMSM motors, harmonic drives, planetary gear systems, bearing technologies, encoder systems, and force/torque control.
- Hands-on experience with precision gear manufacturing processes such as hobbing, shaping, grinding, and honing.
- Good understanding of actuator communication interfaces including CAN, CAN-FD, EtherCAT, and real-time robotic control systems.
- Ability to lead technical programs, mentor engineers, and drive cross-functional collaboration across mechanical, controls, electronics, manufacturing, and supply chain teams.
