Appointment: Counselors shall be appointed annually, upon the recommendation of the
Principal to the Superintendent.
Qualifications:
1. Shall hold a degree in school counseling.
2. Shall demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, peers, and adults.
3. Shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and
faculty.
Physical Demands: Shall have the ability to sit, stand, stoop, as well as lift, carry, push or pull
light weights. The work at times requires all body movements as related to the job description.
Job Summary: Design and deliver a school program that improves student outcomes. Lead,

applying academic achievement strategies, managing emotions, applying interpersonal skills,
and planning for postsecondary options.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Register students new to the school and orient them to school procedures.
2. Aid students in course and subject selection.
3. Provide individual student academic planning and goal setting.
4. Provide short-term counseling to students and refer for long-term support.
5. Analyze data to identify student issues, needs, and challenges.
6. Strive to prevent students from dropping out of school.
7. Guide students in their participation in school and community activities and functions.
8. Advise students in evaluating college and career interests and choices.
9. Advise students in resolving conflicts stemming from problems at home, health,
emotional concerns, etc.
10. Schedule meetings and communicate effectively and consistently with parents, students,
and colleagues.
11. Coordinate effective implementation of the student’s Individual Learning Plan.
12. Assist the school staff in the interpretation of assessment results and application in the
school plan.
13. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by law, district policy, and
administrative regulation and maintain their confidentiality.
14. Attend and participate in faculty meetings, serve on assigned committees, and accept a
share of responsibility for extracurricular activities.
15. Attend and fulfill the requirement of Effective Instructional Leadership Act (EILA) hours.

16. Complete all training and other compliance requirements as assigned.
1. Understand and follow the Professional code of ethics for Kentucky certified personnel.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Superintendent.
