Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Faculty A, 5 level position. Starting salary range: $65,082.00 - $75,929.00/annually, depending upon experience.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Instructor, Human Anatomy and Physiology, is a full-time, benefited position responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in the STEM Pathway and other related courses at the community college level. The instructor will mainly teach human anatomy and human physiology courses, catering to students with varied academic and career goals. Responsibilities include developing, revising, and delivering course materials aligned with college standards, assessing student performance, organizing and executing laboratory activities and experiments, supervising students in laboratory settings, and providing academic support to help students succeed.? The instructor must demonstrate a deep commitment to fostering student success through engagement in departmental activities and staying current in the fields of teaching and zoology/biology through professional development.

In addition to classroom teaching in varied environments, the Human Anatomy and Physiology Instructor will actively participate in student engagement activities, including recruitment, on-campus events and activities, and academic support initiatives. The Instructor will contribute to the continuous improvement of the institution by collaborating with colleagues across the College on curriculum development, program assessment, community building, and student success strategies.

The instructor role also involves institutional service, including participation on committees, involvement in accreditation processes, and collaboration on departmental projects.

Position Duties

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups and the measurement of training effects.
  • Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and workplace terminology.
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology: Expertise in gross and microscopic anatomy, organ systems, and homeostasis, along with an understanding of medical terminology.
  • Biological & Zoological Expertise: Strong foundation in cellular biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, animal taxonomy, and physiology.
  • Lab Expertise: Skilled in practicing and leading others in laboratory/field experiences such as dissections, histology, microscopy, molecular techniques, ecological surveys, and biodiversity assessments for anatomical and/or biological studies.
  • Clinical or Field Experience: experience in medical, clinical, biological, zoological, or ecological work as a career
  • Technology & Safety: Proficiency in virtual anatomy tools, data analysis, and lab/field safety protocols for handling specimens and biological materials.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be instances of somewhat loud environments.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a Biological Science in one of the following subject areas: Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Zoology, Animal Science, Physiology, Anatomy, or Kinesiology OR Master’s degree in Science Education and 18 graduate credits in a Biological Science or Professional degree in Medical, Veterinary, or Physical Therapy
*In lieu of the required degree, candidates with equivalent professional experience, industry certifications, or a combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in Biological Science in one of the following subject areas: Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Zoology, Animal Science, Physiology, Anatomy, or Kinesiology 
  • Two years of college-level teaching experience including teaching in a laboratory setting 
  • One year of experience with web-based learning management systems
  • One year of experience with undergraduate student driven research programs
