Language Research Intern (Indic Languages)
Location: Delhi
Duration: 3 to 6 months (can be extended)
About Chariot
Chariot is a frontier AI research lab based in India that builds foundational AI models. We are one of four teams selected under the IndiaAI Mission to build models from India. We want our models to work as well in Indian languages as the best AI systems work in English.
We're looking for passionate Language Research Interns to own the language infrastructure for one or more Indic languages.
What you will do
You will be responsible for one or more Indic languages that you know well. Your work will include:
- Building test sets to check how well our models perform in your language
- Collecting, cleaning, and improving language datasets, including open-source ones
- Finding words, spellings, and sentence patterns that confuse AI models, and documenting them
- Reviewing model outputs, finding common errors, and working with our researchers to fix them
- Creating language guides and resources that shape how our models are trained and tested
Your work will go directly into our models. When the models improve in your language, that will be because of you.
Who can apply
- You are a native or near-native speaker of at least one Indic language, and you write it well
- You notice small details that others miss
- You enjoy solving language problems
- You can write clear notes and documentation that others can use
Experience with linguistics, translation, language technology, Python, or NLP is a plus, but not required. Students and recent graduates from any background are welcome: computer science, linguistics, literature, journalism, translation, cognitive science, or any related field. Knowing a language deeply matters more than your degree.
Why join
- Work directly with AI researchers and get regular mentorship
- Build datasets and test sets that will be used long after your internship ends
- Help make AI work better for India's languages
How to apply
Send us your resume, the Indic language(s) you speak fluently, and a short note about why this role interests you.
