Reporting Structure:
The Lead Landscape Architect & Studio Manager operates under a dual reporting line. Functionally, the incumbent reports to the Director – Landscape Design, who provides design direction, project oversight, and technical leadership. Administratively, the incumbent reports to the Managing Director in Abu Dhabi and works in close coordination with the Business Support Director and the Coordinator – Shared Services in Bengaluru for all office management, operational, and administrative matters.
Description of the Role:
The Lead Landscape Architect & Studio Manager is a senior dual-function role responsible for leading landscape architecture design and delivery in Bengaluru while simultaneously managing the overall operations of the Bengaluru studio. The incumbent will drive design excellence across complex, multi-scale projects from bid stage through to project completion, while ensuring the studio functions effectively as a productive, well-managed, and professionally run design environment.
In the design leadership capacity, the incumbent will independently manage all aspects of multiple complex projects simultaneously, including client liaison, project programming and budgeting, team leadership, and the pursuit of design excellence. This role also requires active participation in business development and cross-business collaboration.
In the studio management capacity, the incumbent will serve as the administrative and operational head of the Bengaluru office, working closely with the Business Support Director in Abu Dhabi with the support of Coordinator – Shared Services to ensure all back-office, HR, IT, finance, and facilities-related functions are effectively delivered at the studio level. The incumbent will be responsible for fostering a high-performing studio culture, maintaining staff wellbeing, and ensuring the studio upholds company’s standards of professionalism and quality.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design & Project Leadership:
- Provide strong conceptual design leadership across a wide range of project types and scales, delivering spatial design solutions of the highest quality.
- Demonstrate innovation and technical rigour in problem-solving, bringing a global perspective and awareness of contemporary design trends and international best practice.
- Manage and deliver multiple projects concurrently, ensuring compliance with scope, programme, budget, and quality requirements.
- Work closely with clients and stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes in a timely manner, attending briefings to review plans and resolve design conflicts.
- Manage project delivery in compliance with applicable authority requirements and company’s quality management system.
- Monitor project progress and financial performance regularly, reporting to the Director – Landscape Design and senior management as required.
- Mentor, challenge, and develop junior and mid-level staff to build a culture of creativity, technical excellence, and professional growth.
- Collaborate with other business lines and studio heads across company’s network to support cross-business initiatives and resource sharing.
Studio Management & Operations:
- Serve as the administrative head of the Bengaluru studio and report to MD, responsible for the overall operational performance and professional environment of the office.
- Work closely with the Business Support Director in Abu Dhabi on all administrative, HR, financial, and operational matters pertaining to the Bengaluru studio with the support of the Coordinator – Shared Services to ensure effective delivery of shared back-office functions.
- Oversee studio resource planning, including staffing levels, workload distribution, and capacity management in consultation with the Sector Heads of Landscape and Engineering.
- Lead staff engagement, performance management, and professional development initiatives within the Bengaluru team, in coordination with the HR function.
- Act as the primary point of escalation for all studio-level operational, administrative, and staff matters, liaising with the MD and Business Support Director as appropriate.
- Ensure the studio maintains company’s standards of conduct, confidentiality, and compliance with company policies at all times.
- Support recruitment and onboarding of new staff in coordination with the HR function in Abu Dhabi.
- Represent company’s Bengaluru presence in local professional networks, industry bodies, and stakeholder engagements.
Required Candidate Profile:
- Post-graduate degree in Landscape Architecture from a recognized institution.
- Professional affiliation and/or Certified Landscape Architect status (ILA, ISOLA, IFLA, or equivalent).
- Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in landscape architecture, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership or design management role.
- Proven experience managing a design studio, team, or office, with demonstrated ability to handle both design and operational responsibilities.
- Strong project management skills with experience in financial control, client management, and multi-project delivery.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across geographically distributed teams.
- Experience working in or with the Middle East, South Asia, or international design markets is an advantage.
- Proficient in relevant design and project management software.
- High level of professional integrity, leadership presence, and the ability to represent company at a senior level internally and externally.
