Behavior Support Specialist

Location: Lakeshore Public Schools, Stevensville, MI  49127

Roosevelt Elementary School

Hours:  Up to 39.5 Hours Per Week    Pay:  Starting at $25/Hour

Qualifications:

  • Education & Certification:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (preferred).
    • Michigan teaching certificate (preferred).
    • High school diploma required
  • Experience:
    • Experience working in an educational or therapeutic setting.
    • Familiarity with behavioral management techniques, PBIS, and trauma-informed practices (preferred).
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
    • Proficiency in using data to track progress and refine interventions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement plans like Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs) and Individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) to support student success.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to help students improve their behavior.
  • Collaborate with staff and families to create a trauma-informed, positive learning environment.
  • Model and support restorative practices that build relationships and resolve conflicts.
  • Offer crisis intervention support when needed; respond to classrooms/ situations for student behaviors..
  • Lead professional development sessions on restorative practices, trauma-informed strategies, classroom management, and more.
  • Assist in processing major and minor discipline referrals and collaborate effectively with the building principal on behavior-related incidents.
  • Support and coach teachers in implementing positive behavior supports in their classroom.
  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and use data to guide decision-making and measure progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes.
  • Collaborate on strategies to support individual student needs.
  • Partner with families to share strategies for student success at home and school.
  • Plan and participate in the Child Study process and meetings
