NON REP PAYROLL TECHNICIAN JOB TERMS:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. AA or BA in relevant field preferred.
3. Two years of human resource, payroll, information systems, or data analytics experience, preferably in an educational setting.
4. Training and verifiable proficiency using WESPaC/Qmlativ/SKYWARD or other ERP systems.
5. Training and verifiable proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite applications; specifically, Excel.

Days: 260 Contract Days

JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Payroll Data Technician
REPORTS TO: Fiscal/Payroll Supervisor
DIRECTS:
SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Fiscal/Payroll Supervisor the employee works independently and in
conjunction with the Human Resource, Payroll and Benefit Specialists, to create an efficient and organized
department. The employee is responsible for providing technical assistance using highly developed computer
and public relation skills. This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule if necessary in order to
meet deadlines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Payroll/Benefits
● Assist Payroll & Benefit Specialists with related data analysis and calculations.
● Keep Supervisor informed of significant items requiring review or action, and assist as requested.
● Build and utilize advanced EXCEL spreadsheets with complex formula functionality.
● Observe current procedures and identify/implement innovative solutions to create efficiencies while
maintaining audit compliance. Maintain strict confidentiality with payroll and personnel information.
● Assist in maintaining payroll files ensuring compliance, accuracy, and legal procedures.
● Develop efficient methods of calculating timesheet entries that are accurate and timely.
● Assist with open and ongoing employee enrollment in district health and welfare programs.
● Create, maintain, and share Google Documents.
● Assist with all filing, records retention, and archival processes.
Substitute/Leave Replacement Management
● Effectively utilize Red Rover software to run system reports, write custom reports, enter information,
access daily absentee data, and other requested information.
● Utilize system functionalities to improve the efficiency of timekeeping and leave processes.
● Enter and export substitute data, account codes and other information to payroll as needed.
General
● Communicate with staff and other clientele in a professional, friendly manner
● Participate in WASBO and WSIPC/NWRDC training sessions
● Maintain flexible, team-oriented attitude, and assume other duties as assigned
● Promote and practice professional growth and development
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge,
skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. AA or BA preferred in relevant field.
3. Two years of human resource, payroll, information systems, or data analytics experience, preferably
in an educational setting. Additional related experience may substitute for formal education as
deemed appropriate.
4. Training and verifiable proficiency using WESPaC/Qmlativ/SKYWARD or other ERP systems.
5. Training and verifiable proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite applications; specifically, Excel.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
1. Valid Washington State driver’s license
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret English effectively as determined by an assessment. Ability
to follow instructions in English in written and oral form. Ability to write effectively in English.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts of business accounting.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables. Ability to
interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or list form.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
● Verifiable effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
● Extensive computer skills; ability to create and use advanced EXCEL spreadsheets. Proficient in the
use of Microsoft programs Word, PowerPoint, Google Documents, and the Internet.
● Proficient in the use of WESPaC/Qmlativ software programs as it applies to, payroll and
accounting
● Ability to perform tasks with minimal direction and a high degree of accuracy and attention to
detail.
● Ability to work under pressure with constant interruptions, and meet deadlines.
● Ability to handle confidential matters professionally.
● Demonstrated skills and abilities in: self-motivation, independent judgment, innovation, critical and
analytical thinking, organizational and project time management.
● Knowledge of Washington State Labor laws and regulations as they apply to school district
employment practices.
● Knowledge of Washington State school finance and employee benefits.
● Ability to read, analyze, and interpret government regulations, forms, plans and reports specific to
the HR and payroll departments.
● Ability to compile data and write reports, memos and letters with minimal direction from the
department administrator
● Ability to maintain a positive, collaborative attitude at all times
● Willingness to learn and apply new skills to accommodate a changing work environment
● Ability to remain flexible to change in assignments or situations
● Know and follow district policies and procedures
● Ability to practice ethical and professional standards of conduct, including confidentiality
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee
