Job Summary
Kahler Middle School is looking for a dynamic, student-centered Physical Education Teacher to join our middle school team. The ideal candidate isn't just someone who loves sports; they are someone who understands the "middle school brain" and can create an inclusive environment where every student—from the star athlete to the reluctant mover—feels empowered to stay active. In this role, you will move beyond basic drills to focus on physical literacy, teamwork, and lifelong wellness habits.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education or related field
- Licensure: Valid Indiana Secondary Teaching License with Physical Education/Health Endorsement
- Certifications: Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain it immediately).
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum Design: Develop and implement a diverse PE curriculum that includes traditional sports, individual fitness, cooperative games, and health education.
- Inclusion & Engagement: Adapt activities to accommodate students with varying physical abilities and fitness levels, ensuring all students are participating and progressing.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and positive gym environment. Middle schoolers have a lot of energy—you’ll be the one to channel it productively.
- Assessment: Evaluate student growth not just on athletic performance, but on effort, sportsmanship, and understanding of health concepts.
- Collaboration: Work with fellow educators, staff, and parents to support student learning and address individual needs.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of middle school curriculum and instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Proficient in using technology and educational software to enhance teaching and learning.
- Previous teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred, but not required.
