Employment Type: Full-time
About Floaid
Floaid Medtech is developing India's first indigenous Heart-Lung Machine and a percutaneous ventricular assist device (PVAD) — advanced cardiac life-support technology built in Chennai. Blood-handling performance is central to our devices, and rigorous hemolysis testing under good laboratory practice is essential to proving them safe. This role owns the day-to-day running of our test lab and the integrity of the data that comes out of it.
Role Summary
We are looking for a meticulous Lab Technician to run and maintain our device testing laboratory, with a primary focus on in-vitro hemolysis studies. You will set up and operate mock circulation loops, collect and handle blood samples responsibly, run experiments to protocol, and log data accurately under GLP practices. The ideal candidate is disciplined, safety-conscious, and takes genuine ownership of sample accountability and record integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
• Set up, operate, and maintain the test lab and its equipment (mock circulation loops, pumps, sensors, analysers, and related instrumentation).
• Prepare test rigs, consumables, reagents, and fixtures ahead of each experiment.
• Perform routine equipment checks, cleaning, calibration schedules, and preventive maintenance; escalate faults promptly.
• Maintain lab inventory and reorder consumables and reagents before stock runs out.
• Keep the lab clean, organised, and compliant with safety and biohazard protocols.
Hemolysis Studies & Experiments
• Run in-vitro hemolysis experiments to protocol (e.g. NIH / MIH and plasma free hemoglobin measurement).
• Operate mock circulation loops and monitor flow, pressure, temperature, and sampling intervals during test runs.
• Collect blood samples at defined timepoints and perform the required assays and measurements accurately.
• Set up head-to-head and predicate comparison tests as directed by the R&D team.
• Flag deviations, anomalies, or out-of-range results immediately and document them.
Blood Collection & Sample Accountability
• Take ownership of blood procurement, receipt, labelling, storage, and chain-of-custody records for all experiments.
• Ensure blood is sourced, handled, stored, and disposed of per approved SOPs and biosafety requirements.
• Maintain accurate logs of every sample: source, volume, timepoint, usage, and disposal.
• Track anticoagulant and additive usage and ensure samples remain within acceptable handling windows.
Data Logging & GLP Compliance
• Record all experimental data legibly, accurately, and contemporaneously in accordance with GLP principles.
• Maintain lab notebooks, raw data records, and equipment logs so that every result is traceable and reconstructable.
• Follow approved SOPs and test protocols; support the drafting and revision of SOPs where needed.
• Support internal quality checks, audits, and regulatory documentation for GLP studies.
• Ensure data integrity (ALCOA principles: attributable, legible, contemporaneous, original, accurate).
Requirements
• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Biomedical, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, MLT (Medical Lab Technology), or a related field.
• 1–4 years of hands-on laboratory experience; experience with blood handling or hematology assays strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with good laboratory practice (GLP), lab safety, and biohazard handling.
• Comfortable operating and troubleshooting lab instruments and test rigs.
• Meticulous record-keeping and data-logging discipline; strong attention to detail.
• Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to take ownership of sample accountability.
• Working knowledge of MS Excel / Google Sheets for data entry and basic analysis.
Nice to Have
• Experience with hemolysis testing, plasma free hemoglobin measurement, or blood-contacting device evaluation.
• Exposure to mock circulation loops, perfusion circuits, or cardiovascular device testing.
• Familiarity with ISO 10993-4 (haemocompatibility) or ASTM F1841 (hemolysis) concepts.
• Prior experience in a medical device, GLP, or regulated R&D environment.
• Knowledge of Tamil and English (Hindi a bonus).
What We Offer
• A hands-on role at the heart of cutting-edge Indian cardiac medtech development.
• Direct collaboration with engineers, clinicians, and the founding team.
• Growth into senior lab, quality, or R&D roles as the company scales.
