DORD Hospital is 80 bedded at Daudnagar (Sub-Divisional Town) in Aurangabad District of Bihar State. We perform 3,200+ OPD and 900+ Eye surgeries are done per month. We have performed 3,50,000+ OPD and 60,000+ Eye Surgeries. Sightsavers India and HelpAge India and other donors are supporting us regularly. We are the 5th largest Eye care service provider in Bihar State.
Build-up area is approx..20,000 sqft. Presently, we have been serving in Eye Care Single specialty for the last 12 years. Presently, 3 Resident Surgeons and 1 Resident Fellow (placed by Sightsavers India) are serving. 60+ staff including Optometrists, Nurses and support staff are working in the hospital.
Department: Pre‑operative Screening, DORD Hospital
1. Position Summary
The Lab Technician will perform pre‑operative infectious disease screening (HIV 1&2 and Hepatitis B – HBsAg) for all cataract surgery patients. The technician ensures accurate testing, safe sample handling, proper documentation, and timely reporting to the OT and counselling team.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Sample Collection & Pre‑Analytical Work
· Collect venous blood samples following universal precautions.
· Label samples correctly with patient name, UHID, date, and test type.
· Maintain sample integrity (no hemolysis, proper storage).
· Ensure patient identity verification before collection.
B. Testing Responsibilities
HIV Testing (Rapid / ELISA depending on setup):
· Perform HIV 1&2 rapid card test or ELISA as per hospital protocol.
· Follow NACO guidelines for HIV screening.
· Maintain strict quality control for kits and reagents.
Hepatitis B Testing (HBsAg):
· Conduct HBsAg rapid card test or ELISA.
· Ensure proper incubation, timing, and interpretation.
· Record results immediately in the serology register.
C. Infection Control & Safety
· Follow biosafety level‑2 precautions.
· Dispose of sharps and bio‑waste as per BMW rules.
· Maintain PPE: gloves, mask, apron.
· Ensure proper disinfection of workbench and equipment.
D. Documentation & Reporting
· Enter results in Lab Register + EMR.
· Report positive results immediately to the Medical Officer / Counsellor.
· Maintain daily QC log, kit usage log, and temperature log.
· Ensure confidentiality of patient reports.
E. Coordination with Cataract Workflow
· Provide same‑day results for cataract patients.
· Coordinate with OPD, Counsellor, OT Manager for clearance.
· Flag reactive cases for further medical evaluation before surgery.
3. Required Qualifications
· Minimum qualification: ➡️ DMLT (Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology)
· Preferred qualification: ➡️ BMLS / B.Sc MLT (Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science)
· Experience in serology / rapid tests preferred
· Knowledge of HIV & HBsAg testing protocols
· Understanding of universal precautions & biosafety
4. Skills & Competencies
· Accurate sample handling
· Good interpretation skills for rapid tests
· Strong documentation discipline
· Ability to work under time pressure (same‑day catar6ct clearance)
· Ethical handling of sensitive results
5. Work Schedule
· 9 AM – 5 PM, with flexibility during high cataract load days
· Sunday camps as per hospital requirement

· Zero sample labeling errors
· 100% same‑day reporting
· Zero biosafety violations
· QC compliance
· Patient satisfaction during sample collection
7. Reporting To
· Lab In‑Charge / Pathologist
· Administrative coordination with Cataract Counsellor & OT Manager
Remuneration and Facilities:
Monthly Salary: Rs.15,000 per month depending on their degree and skills. Residential facility will be provided.
