ROLE OVERVIEW:
This position is responsible for moving freight, stock, or other materials over short distances from railcars to trucks.
Typical schedule during production season is Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 5:00 PM with 1 - 2 Saturdays possible per month. Typical schedule during maintenance season is Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Schedules may vary due to weather and customer demand.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job)
- Uses safe work procedures that comply with safety policies and regulations.
- Move freight, stock and other materials by hand or by using track mobile on site in a safe and efficient manner while complying with all federal, state, local and company policies.
- Assist in performing or scheduling repairs or preventive maintenance of vehicles or other equipment. Sometimes performing these at elevated platforms with heavy tools.
- Unload railcars by operating track mobile on site and/or hand tools.
- Keeps records of materials received.
- Keeps facility yard clean and organized.
- Maintain & clean vehicles, machinery and other equipment and recommends safety improvements.
- Ensure OSHA, DOT, EPA, DNR, MSHA, Federal, State, and Local safety and environmental regulation compliance including attending training.
- Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITITES (types and extent of knowledge, skills or abilities an incumbent must possess to complete the job responsibilities satisfactorily
- Understanding safe handling of bulk materials, palletized goods, and freight commonly moved in transload operations.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices, PPE requirements, hazard communication (HazCom), and safe lifting techniques.
- Basic knowledge of loading/unloading procedures for trucks, railcars, and containers, including weight distribution and securement practices.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements)As a successful Rail Material Handler, you will have:
- High School diploma or General Education Degree, or equivalent experience.
- Driver’s license preferred.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime, possible nights and some Saturdays
