The Klickitat County Commissioners'' Office is please to offer a summer internship opportunity for an upcoming high school graduate or current college student. This internship provides hands-on experience assisting with daily office operations, preparation of meeting materials, and an introduction to the functions of local county government,
Our goal is to provide the intern with practical knowledge and experience in the principles, practices, techniques and tools used in a professional public service office . The intern will be supervised by the Executive Secretary/Clerk of the Board who will provide training and evaluate performance throughout the internship. Feedback may also be gathered from county staff and departments who interact with the intern,
Hours of Work and Compensation: - Approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Some Flexibility may be available with advance notice for pre-arranged time off.
- Anticipated start date: June 15; anticipated end date: September 4. or earlier depending on the interns school schedule.
- Dailly starts and end times will be determined during orientation. A one-hour unpaid lunch break is scheduled form 12:00pm- 1:00pm
Position Duties
- Assist with the daily operations of the Commissioners' Office. Duties may include processing mail, providing receptionist support, performing clerical and computer tasks, and learning department procedures, policies, and services.
- Assist with preparation and distribution of meeting materials, including taking notes and drafting meeting minutes,
- Maintain files, records, and other information resources, photocopy and organize archival documents', and process forms and related documents.
- Participate in Commissioner" meetings, workshops, and other board or committee meetings as needed.
- Gain exposure to a range of entry-level administrative and secretarial functions within the Commissioners" Office
- May assist other County offices or departments, depending on operational needs,
Minimum Qualifications
- Upcoming high school graduate or currently enrolled college student.
- Demonstrated reliability , professionalism, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to multitask, exercise discretion, and develop a strong work ethic.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to work effectively with staff and the public.
