About the Department
Under the direction of the Litter Crew Supervisor the Litter Crew Member will pick up litter and recyclable materials along the margins of public roadways and at other various locations as assigned. Seasonal position 32 Hours/Week June - August.
Position Duties
- Clean litter and recyclable materials from County roads, boat launches, parks and other public areas.
- Participate in special events, staff displays at public events, such as fairs and parades, to inform the public about litter prevention, recycling and other environmental issues.
- Participate in environmental learning activities. May also assist in helping to promote the “Litter and It Will Hurt” campaign.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 14 – 19 years old on the first day of employment and currently enrolled in school.
- Minors will require a Parent/School Authorization form.
Other Qualifications
Duties will be performed outside in inclement and unpredictable weather, including high temperatures and windy/dusty conditions. Position requires the ability to stand, walk, and work on feet for up to six (6) hours or longer per shift. Will require frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, grasping, twisting, and traversing a variety of surfaces; must be able to lift, pull, push and/or carry up to fifty pounds (50 lbs.) or occasionally higher with assistance. Must have close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus; and have hearing and speech to communicate clearly in person, over the telephone and by radio. Safety rules and regulations must be adhered to at all times; personal protective equipment must be worn when required for employee safety.
Travel throughout Kittitas County is required. Regular attendance, reliability, and punctuality are required.
