Role Description The Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing daily kitchen operations at Sevalaya’s on-site facility in Tiruvallur in a full-time capacity. This role includes planning menus, supervising food preparation and cooking, and ensuring meals are nutritious, hygienic, and timely for all beneficiaries. The Kitchen Manager will manage kitchen staff schedules, coordinate procurement and inventory of ingredients and supplies, and maintain compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. The role involves monitoring food quality and portion control, optimizing kitchen workflows, and collaborating with program teams to align meal plans with organizational needs. The Kitchen Manager also supports cost control, record-keeping, and continuous improvement of kitchen processes to ensure efficient and compassionate service.
Qualifications
- Ability to manage food preparation and cooking activities, ensuring consistency and efficiency in daily operations.
- Knowledge of food & beverage operations and food quality standards, with a focus on hygiene and nutrition.
- Experience in culinary management, including menu planning, staff supervision, and kitchen workflow optimization.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail in inventory control and documentation.
- Understanding of food safety regulations and best practices in sanitation and safe food handling.
- Effective communication and people management skills, with the ability to lead and train a diverse kitchen team.
- Prior experience in large-scale or institutional kitchens, community kitchens, or non-profit settings is an advantage.
- Basic proficiency in relevant local languages and comfort working in a rural or semi-urban environment.
