Position Overview: 

The Mechanical Engineer II provides technical support related to the design and application of Kingsbury products. This technical support involves interacting with other departments including Sales, Manufacturing and Quality as well as Kingsbury’s customers.


 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates with Sales in the quotation phase. This includes reviewing the customers’ specifications and applicable drawings, selecting the appropriate bearing for the application, providing calculations and technical information and informing Sales of any design changes or technical challenges that may affect price and/or delivery of a product.
  • Coordinates engineering effort with drafting to ensure that designs incorporate all applicable inputs from the customer and follow Kingsbury’s design standards. This includes designing new products and/or making modifications to existing products by utilizing tools such as CAD, marked-up drawings, field service reports, test data, and/or customer feedback to determine hardware configurations. 
  • Works closely with Manufacturing in the production of Kingsbury products. This includes informing the appropriate departments of any special requirements in material, quality, or manufacturing that were incorporated in the design while maintaining time and cost constraints. It may also involve the inspection or supervision of jobs where quality, manufacturing, assembly, materials, etc. are of a new design or of special requirements not normally encountered in standard practice. 
  • Assists in the decision-making related to the disposition of non-conforming parts and/or material as required.
  • Designs the portion of the bearing relating to operating parameters, stress analysis, fit and tolerance. This includes using general engineering practices as well as in-house developed codes to analyze bearing performance data based on the customer operating conditions. This also includes the evaluation of form, fit and function for every new design or modification.
  • Participates in product development and improvement by performing special calculations, analysis, or related evaluations as assigned. This includes interfacing with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality and Purchasing as required. This may also include performing tests as specified and documenting the necessary information to be incorporated in new product development or improvement.
  • Provides technical support to Sales. This includes visiting customer and end user sites.
  • Maintains technical proficiency by keeping up to date with the latest industry developments and standards. This is accomplished by attending classes, seminars and conferences where possible. 
  • Maintains availability of up-to-date product information. This includes providing technical support for catalog development, assisting in the upgrade of in-house software, and maintaining the engineering standards library.
  • Exemplifies Kingsbury’s safety mindset by complying with all safety requirements and acting as a safety ambassador.
  • Attends all company-required trainings and meetings (e.g., safety and department meetings).
  • Oversee and maintain the quality according to Kingsbury Quality Assurance standards across Kingsbury products and processes.
  • Complete special projects, continuous improvement initiatives and all other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering) from four-year college or university and two+ years’ related experience.
