Position Summary: KCSARC therapists are experts in providing trauma-specific treatment for victims of sexual assault who span the ages of 6 through adulthood. They are trained in gold-standard, evidence-based cognitive behavioral treatment modalities. Training is provided in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
The type of psychotherapy offered at KCSARC is geared toward change with the goal of guiding clients towards recovery from the impact of trauma. While all interventions are collaborative and tailored to each client’s unique presentation and needs, these modalities are therapist-led, directive, and very different from general or supportive counseling approaches. These modalities are focused and time-limited, and most clients complete treatment in an average of 16 to 20 sessions.
This position provides community-based mental health services to survivors of sexual abuse and assault and requires the ability to engage with complex emotional content while maintaining clinical effectiveness and professional boundaries. Trauma Therapists are exposed to clients’ memories of abuse and to their current struggles. They also witness clients’ resilience and recovery. KCSARC provides support to staff to help them manage the impact of secondary trauma. Therapists are supported in their role with weekly supervision as well as regular access to consultation with national experts.
At KCSARC, we not only value diversity – we celebrate it. We are committed to creating a team as diverse as the communities we live in, and we believe that the more inclusive we are, the better our team will be. We are rooted in a foundation of anti-racism and equity, which must be demonstrated in word and action. As a proud equal opportunity employer, we welcome all races, ethnicities, genders, abilities, identities, religions, and ages, candidates who are veterans, LGBTQ+, and multilingual, candidates with diverse viewpoints and experiences, and candidates who have an EAD (Employment Authorization Document), regardless of immigration status.
