About the role

Kin is redesigning insurance to be smarter, faster, and centered on the customer. We use intelligent pricing, offer seamless bundling, and make every step (from purchasing, servicing to claims) simple and friction-free, especially in the places traditional insurers often ignore. We empower people to protect what matters most, starting with their homes and expanding to all they value, in a world where climate risks, rising costs, and outdated systems leave too many behind. Our approach has fostered amazing growth, attracted marquee investors, and earned us accolades, including being named to: - Built In Chicago's Best Places to Work, Midsize Companies (2021-2025). - Forbes' America's Best Startup Employers (2021- 2024, Ranked #37 in 2024). - Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Private Companies. - Forbes' Fintech 50. Simply put, our people are what make us great – we need forward-thinking, inspired game-changers like you to join us in our mission. WHAT'S THE ROLE? Kin is on a mission to simplify home insurance, and in doing so, to make it more accessible, especially for those in climate-impacted states. We're looking for a Product Design Lead to drive the design strategy and implementation for our Support Experiences, which directly impact the tools and workflows of our internal agents, support staff, and operations teams. You'll lead high-impact initiatives that improve internal efficiency and scale the business, all while ensuring design excellence and cohesive experiences across the Kin ecosystem. You'll also manage and mentor a growing team of designers and help shape the standards of enterprise UX at Kin as the design department continues to grow. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Product Design Lead, your work will span three key pillars–design strategy, end-to-end execution, and team leadership. You will own the experiences (both net-new and redesigns) of teams utilizing multiple products across a wide range of business functions. As someone who owns the full design process, you'll need to zoom in and out between 30,000 feet and high fidelity pixels. But you won't be alone. You'll be part of a team of designers who collaborate and support one another in their work, a team where you'll be a senior member. Here's more of what you'll do: - Lead Design for Support Tools: Own and evolve the internal-facing agent experience, including initiatives around supporting our sales and claims teams, ensuring agents have fast, intuitive access to complex information. - Design at Scale: Craft experiences that serve multiple internal personas and workflows, with an emphasis on simplifying the complex, especially in areas like policy servicing, quoting flows, and claims navigation. - Strategic Collaboration: Partner with product managers, engineers, researchers, and cross-functional stakeholders to define requirements and validate ideas. - Prototype & Validate: Use tools like Figma, Usertesting.com http://Usertesting.com, and live feedback from agents to ideate, test, and refine experiences quickly and thoughtfully. - Drive Design Quality: Set the standard for enterprise UX at Kin. Influence design systems, ensure consistency, and elevate design execution across multiple surfaces. - Facilitate & Communicate: Run design sprints and cross-functional workshops. Present your ideas and decisions with clarity, tying design rationale to user insights and business metrics. - Manage & Mentor Designers: Eventually manage at least one other product designer, providing feedback, coaching, and clarity on strategic priorities. THE SKILLS TO SUCCEED - Vision-Driven Design Leadership: You articulate a compelling design vision grounded in user, business, and technical realities, and you can effectively rally teams around it. You shape product direction, not just execution, through systems thinking, storytelling, and strategic foresight. - Collaborative Influence Across Functions: You build trusted partnerships with product, engineering, and research leads, and elevate cross-functional work by aligning priorities and guiding trade-offs. You're not just part of the process, you're steering it. - Craft Excellence at Scale: Your bar for visual and interaction design is high, and you help others reach it. You design modern, accessible, and elegant interfaces — and ensure design systems, patterns, and tools empower teams to deliver consistently. - Clarity in Complexity: You simplify intricate systems into intuitive flows and cohesive user experiences. You not only manage complexity but also make it disappear through structure, clarity, and reusable solutions. - Designing for Long-Term Impact: You anticipate future needs and design with scale and adaptability in mind. You know when to reuse, when to invent, and how to keep teams aligned through change. - Mentorship & Design Culture Building: You grow other designers through thoughtful feedback, coaching, and by modeling best practices. You contribute to a culture of excellence and inclusivity, shaping how design shows up across the company.
