Minimum Education
• Minimum requirement of high school diploma
• Must be a senior-level student in an accredited Ultrasound program
Minimum Work Experience
• 1-year previous experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
Required LicensesDiagnostic Medical Sonographer
• Non-registered techs (113410) must obtain 1 ARDMS registry within 12 months after graduation.
• Upon graduation from accredited Ultrasound program, the employee must sign Addendum A*
• Once the first registry is obtained by the employee, they will move into job code Ultrasound Tech1 (113481)

Required Skill
• The Ultrasound sonographer should have basic computer knowledge.
• The Ultrasound sonographer should have good customer service skills.
• The Ultrasound sonographer should be able to work independently and be self-motivated.
Annual Competencies
1. Employee has basic knowledge of radiation safety.
2. Employee demonstrates understanding of the usage of equipment.
3. Employee demonstrates proper patient identification.4. Employee demonstrates consistent hand hygiene practices.
• The Ultrasound sonographer will need strength to withstand long hours of imaging and utilize correct body mechanics to reduce the risks of wrist and back injuries.
• The Ultrasound sonographer will need excellent communication and documentation skills.
• The ultrasound sonographer will need sound anatomy and physiology knowledge and be detail oriented.
• The Ultrasound sonographer must be comfortable working near radiologists/residents and nurses.
