Description
The Summer Splash program is a literacy program designed to assist children and students from kindergarten to 6th grade in the development of their academic skills. This position is responsible for the planning, coordination, leadership, supervision, implementation and evaluations of the After School Summer Splash program serving families who live at the Birch Creek Subsidized King County Housing Authority site.
JOB TYPE/SCHEDULE: Part time, Monday to Friday beginning in May through the end of the program, which runs through the end of August. Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the program.
TARGET PAY for this position: $35 per hour/DOE
BENEFITS: This position is eligible for state mandated benefits only.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have and maintain a teaching certification.
- Previous experience in a similar position, planning, directing and implementing a literacy program.
- Two or more years of college or equivalent work experience required.
- Must be a mature, responsible and positive role model for children and youth.
- Must have good communication skills and the ability to interact positively with youth, community residents, other staff, and service providers.
- Ability to provide direct leadership and supervision of youth in activities.
- Must have or be able to be obtain CPR and first aid certificate.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office programs and keyboarding at least 30 WPM
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the program.
- Must have and maintain a valid WA State driver's license and auto insurance.
- Experience working with low-income, culturally, and racially diverse youth and their families.
- Skill and experience in planning and implementing recreational activities for youth.
- Must pass a Washington State Patrol and a federal criminal background check.
Summary
OVERVEIW of DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Network within the Housing Authority community to determine community needs and resources.
- Coordination of Summer Splash programming includes, but is not limited to:
- Collaborate with teachers to develop curriculum, including pre- and post-assessment.
- Coordinate registration for all classes.
- Serve as a liaison between KSD, KYFS, KCHA and YMCA
- Conduct staff orientation and training.
- Create, revise and establish a predictable schedule that includes clear transitions, healthy snack/meal, academic/homework time, literacy activities, free choice/enrichment time, outdoor/physical activities and clean-up time.
- Purchase necessary program supplies and food for the program.
- Oversee classroom management, conflict resolution and behavioral issues with and between youth, with a focus on positive discipline, consistent consequences, restorative justice and the values of honesty, respect, safety, cooperation and responsibility.
- Organize special guests, presenters, field trips and workshops that meet the needs of participants.
- Actively participate in the recruitment, screening, coaching, training and supervision of Staff, volunteer tutor/mentors.
- Write site reports, maintain daily site attendance, incident/accident forms.
